Job Summary:
The Mission Specialist - Network Administrator plays a critical role in supporting mission-critical GPS operations by combining mission planning, execution, and network administration responsibilities. This position supports the planning, coordination, monitoring, and execution of GPS missions while ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of the Next Generation Operational Control Segment (OCX) network infrastructure.
This role provides direct support to 2 NWS mission operations, initial crew requirements through OCX transition, and eventual nominal GPS operations. The Mission Specialist - Network Administrator collaborates closely with operations, sustainment, and military crews to ensure mission readiness, system availability, and successful execution during real-world, exercise, and contingency operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Mission Planning and Execution
- Plan, coordinate, and execute mission objectives in alignment with 2 NWS mission operation requirements.
- Monitor and manage all mission phases from planning through execution, providing real-time support during critical mission events.
- Ensure all mission-related activities comply with regulatory, safety, and operational requirements.
- Conduct mission operations transfer procedures between the MCS and AMCS and relocate to backup locations (Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA) as required for real-world, exercise, and contingency operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations and sustainment, to ensure mission readiness and efficiency.
- Support GPS mission operations during normal duty hours and transition to shift-based operations as required.
Network and Ground System Operations
- Monitor OCX ground systems and network infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity.
- Continuously monitor communication circuits, including operational circuits, remote sites, satellite vehicle contractor interfaces, and external connections.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and isolate communications and network malfunctions, reconfiguring ground systems equipment as required per published technical orders.
- Ensure the health and operational status of ground equipment, remote sites, and external interfaces.
- Monitor and assist in maintaining Cross Domain Solutions / High Speed Guards.
- Coordinate and support troubleshooting activities until anomalous conditions are resolved and operations are restored to normal.
- Remain fully trained and certified for Ground System Specialist (GSS) and mission support tasks.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace, or a related technical field required, or combination of experience and education.
- Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in mission planning, mission operations, network administration, or a related technical field.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience supporting GPS, DoD satellite operations, or communication circuits.
- Clearance Requirement:
- Secret (Required)
- Top Secret (Desired)
- Required Skills:
- Prior experience with GPS control segment operations and GPS-type software.
- Strong technical background in mission-critical and high-availability environments.
- Ability to monitor, diagnose, and resolve network and communications issues efficiently.
- Proficiency with mission management tools, monitoring systems, and data analysis tools.
- Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure during high-stress mission events.
- CompTIA Security+ (IAT Level II) certification.
- Willingness to travel or deploy periodically to the AMCS at Vandenberg SFB, CA.
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience with OCX Mission Planning Subsystem software.
- Knowledge of OCX Scheduling Technical Order procedures.
- Previous OCX and/or AEP experience.
- Experience working in a DoD, aerospace, or defense industry environment.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
- Work performed in operational control centers and data center environments with occasional visits to server rooms or remote sites.
- Ability to remain focused and perform effectively during extended mission operations.
- Some travel may be required for mission support, deployments, or contingency operations.
- May involve extended hours, shift work, or on-call support during critical mission phases or emergencies.
Work Schedule:
- Full-time position, typically 40 hours per week during training and nominal operations.
- Transition to 24/7 shift operations as mission requirements dictate.
- Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
- Base contract through March 2026, with an option year (not yet executed) through March 2027.
