Compensation: $29.57 + $5.09 Health & Wellness (company-paid; medical, dental and vision)
Work Location: U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners (USMCFP) Springfield (1900 West Sunshine StreetSpringfield, MO 65807)
Work Schedule: As-needed basis (excluding Federal Holidays)
Typical Availability Required: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday – 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM(or as mutually agreed with the Government)
Estimated Maximum Workload: Up to 36 sessions per week per interpreter
1 session = 1 hour
Partial sessions are not authorized
Estimated annual maximum: 1,784 sessions per interpreter
Position Summary
The Spanish Interpreter / Translator provides professional on-site interpretation and translation services in support of the Bureau of Prisons at USMCFP Springfield. The interpreter supports staff and adult-in-custody (AIC) patients by delivering accurate verbal interpretation and written translations across multiple institutional departments, ensuring effective communication in medical, legal, and administrative environments. This is a key personnel role requiring proven qualifications, documented experience, and the ability to successfully obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Scope of Services / Core DutiesVerbal Interpretation (On-Site)
Provide conversational Spanish-English interpretation between staff members (or authorized contractors) and AIC patients.
Interpret in real-time during interactions in support of Medical, Nursing, Medical Records, Mental Health, Legal, and Case Management.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and accuracy while interpreting sensitive information.
Written Translation
Translate written documents and records from English to Spanish and/or Spanish to English as requested.• Ensure translated materials preserve the meaning, tone, and technical accuracy of the source document.
Department Support / Institutional Coordination
Provide services across multiple locations throughout the institution as required.• Support time-sensitive interpretation needs in clinical and operational settings.
Performance Standards
The interpreter must:
Communicate fluently and professionally in both Spanish and English.
Accurately interpret and translate with attention to detail, including technical terms.
Demonstrate strong working knowledge of medical terminology, legal terminology, and related subject matter.
Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism in a correctional healthcare environment.
Maintain reliable availability during requested service hours
Deliver consistent, accurate interpretation/translation services
Uphold professional standards in a secure correctional medical environment
Represent the contractor and Government professionally during all interactions
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following:
Fluency in Spanish (spoken and written) and ability to interpret into English accurately.•
Documented experience providing translation and interpretation services, preferably in a hospital or medical care setting.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate medical and legal terminology appropriately.
Ability to provide supporting documentation proving qualifications (resume, references, and related proof).
Ability to work on-site at USMCFP Springfield and travel within the institution as needed
