The Western Region Software Engineering organization comprises over 600 highly skilled professionals, including Software Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Database Administrators, and Network Engineers, at all levels-ranging from early-career engineers to senior chief engineers and architects. As a Staff Data Software Engineer (Level 5), you will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of software solutions within a fast-paced CI/CD environment. You'll work as part of an agile Scrum team, collaborating with like-minded professionals while tackling challenging and impactful problems. As part of your responsibilities, you'll also serve as a Product Owner, driving the vision and direction of software products, and leveraging your knowledge and experience in AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine) to deliver transformative solutions. This position combines analytical expertise, technical innovation, and mission-driven purpose, all while contributing to the success of space command and control systems.

Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

- Pipeline Execution: Designing, coding, testing, and deploying production-grade data pipelines to ensure reliable and efficient data workflows.
- Data Modeling: Translating high-level design specifications into effective data models and structures, ensuring seamless implementation of data solutions for space command and control systems.
- Data Reliability: Monitoring pipeline performance, resolving production issues, and applying necessary fixes to maintain high data availability and accuracy for downstream analytics and reporting.
- Business Translation: Partnering with Software Architects and customers to understand mission needs, translating complex space system requirements into actionable data and analytics solutions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) discipline with 12+ years of data software engineering experience; or Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 10+ years of experience; or Ph.D. with 8+ years of experience.
- Active DoD Top Secret clearance required at the time of application with the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain an SCI access and Counterintelligence Polygraph (CI-Poly)
- Experience developing data management solutions with Java and Python
- Strong knowledge of mathematical models and the ability to apply advanced algorithms.
- Experience developing production software in an agile development lifecycle
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI clearance at the time of application
- Prior working experience in space systems, intelligence operations, battle management and/or command and control systems
- Proven experience applying CUDA and R in domains such as machine learning, deep learning, or large-scale data pipelines
- At least 6 years of agile software development experience
- Experience developing applications on Linux based operating systems
- Ability to quickly move from prototypes to operational capabilities
- Ability to effectively communicate and present to program management and customers
- Ability to effectively write technical documentation
