The successful candidate will Provide Enterprise level Database support to the Test Resource Management Center's (TRMC) All Domain Test Range (ADTR) and INDOPACOM Pacific-Rim Multi-Domain Training and Experimentation Capability Team, Joint Mission Environment Test Capability (JMETC) Secret Network (JSN) Node, JMETC Multiple Independent Levels of Security Network (JMN) Node, Secret Defense Research and Engineering Network (SDREN), Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN).
As a DBA, you will be a critical part of our team responsible for evaluating customer and TRMC owned system requirements on complex technical challenges. You will aid by providing solutions to complex problems in a manner which meets both functional and security requirements. You will handle keeping the teams database infrastructure operational and in compliance with all TRMC directives and applicable RMF requirements. To do this you will often work with other distributed team members to plan, implement, provide technical input, and analyze current system status and desired future enhancements.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Architecture: Lead the implementation of scalable enterprise database solutions, specializing in AlwaysOn High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies.
Security & Compliance: Act as the primary lead for the DoD STIG process. Ensure all SQL instances meet rigorous federal security mandates and RMF requirements.
Performance Engineering: Actively monitor and refine high-volume T-SQL queries. Resolve complex issues like parameter sniffing, inefficient execution plans, and deadlocking.
Tier 3 Escalation: Serve as the final point of escalation for performance crises using SQL Profiler, Extended Events, and Query Store.
Mission Collaboration: Partner with distributed teams to translate customer requirements into secure, functional database architectures
Required Qualifications:
12+ years of dedicated MS SQL Server administration experience in enterprise environments.
Bachelor's Degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
Direct, hands-on experience with DoD STIG hardening protocols specific to databases or database applications.
Must hold an IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE)
U.S. Citizenship is required for security clearance eligibility.
Must be able to obtain SECRET clearance with TS/SCI eligibility
Desired Qualifications:
Cloud Evolution: Experience with Azure SQL Managed Instance, AWS RDS, or Azure Web Development.
Automation: Proficiency in PowerShell, Python, or .NET to automate routine DBA tasks.
Ecosystem Tools: Experience with ServiceNow (ITSM) and Wiki-based documentation (SOPs).
Polyglot Exposure: Experience with Oracle, MongoDB or other databases.
Advanced Technical Competencies:
Wait State Analysis: Diagnosing bottlenecks (CXPACKET, PAGEIOLATCH, etc.).
Execution Plan Anatomy: Identifying implicit conversions, sort warnings, and inefficient joins.
Index Strategy: Mastery of Clustered, Non-Clustered, and Columnstore indexing.
Engine Tuning: Fine-tuning MAXDOP, Cost Threshold for Parallelism, and Memory allocations.
Concurrency: Expert handling of isolation levels (Snapshot, RCSI) and blocking.
Work Environment:
• Location: Remote (office is in Niceville, FL
• Travel Requirements: Minimal (less than 20%)
• Working Hours: Flexible (dependent on mission schedule)
