Description
SAIC is seeking a Design Engineer to support and lead mechanical design, integration, and documentation efforts for the Advanced Manufacturing Systems Program Office in support of NSWC Crane tasking portfolio at our EastGate facility in Bedford, Indiana. Selected candidate will lead a team to design mechanical / electromechanical systems, assemblies, and sub-assemblies; review technical documentation and drawings; and apply currently accepted manufacturing processes and ISO procedures in the manufacturing of systems. Candidate will perform acceptance testing on components and systems to ensure functionality and compliance with design specifications, determine the causes of failures, and test manufactured products to maintain quality. Candidate will use SolidWorks and work with engineers, technicians, drafters, and customer to initiate and capture designs, and to document installation of machines and electronic equipment including associated wiring into Tactical Systems. Select candidate must be willing to travel to locations as needed, up to 10%.

Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical design, documentation, and integration of mobility platform programs.
- Create and review engineering drawings and 3D models using industry-standard CAD software.
- Coordinate with task leads to generate deliverables and provide timely status reporting.
- Participate in prototype builds, testing, and documentation efforts.
- Guide and mentor drafters, technicians and junior team members.
- Ensure configuration management and documentation control processes are followed.
- Contribute to continuous process improvements across design and production workflows.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors and two (2) years or more experience; Masters and 0 years related experience; High School Diploma and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in design, drafting, and integration of Tactical Systems.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: - An active, transferable DoD Secret (or higher) clearance is required or Interim Secret within 60 days of start of work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Candidate must be able to complete the physical demands of the job, including but not limited to lifting, pulling, pushing and/or carrying up to 50 pounds, unassisted, on a regular basis; climbing into confined spaces within tactical vehicles or shelterized systems; manipulating and handling objects needed for installation: reaching, grasping, twisting, turning and manipulating equipment and tools within confined spaces, as well as walking, bending, stooping, sitting, standing or squatting for extended periods of time.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE: - Experience with Solidworks required. CREO, Solid Edge, and Autocad also desired.
- Strong mechanical skills and experience supporting military tactical systems: troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, installation, and checkout procedures.
- Demonstrated leadership in technical roles or small team supervision.
- Working knowledge of ASME and MIL-STD standards.
- Familiarity with Windchill or other PLM systems.
