The Y12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, TN, plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. Y-12 provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to produce components, subassemblies, and quality evaluations to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce the threat from weapons of mass destruction; supply nuclear material to the Naval Reactors Program; and provide solutions to other emerging national security challenges. Y-12 has developed state-of-the-art capabilities in three core areas: nuclear technology and materials, security and consequence management, and manufacturing and technical services. Y-12 lends its specialized expertise to other federal agencies, such as the U.S. Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, state and local governments, and private-sector companies. Projects at Y-12 include providing protective equipment to soldiers in combat, training National Guard units for radiological emergencies, and creating machining platforms that improve production and efficiency.

The Piping Engineer will provide Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC (CNS), Mission Engineering with full time piping design engineering support for facility and production area activities in Cat 2 and Cat 3 facilities.



Responsibilities:

Provide design output documentation to support minor facility modifications. The types of design output documents typically developed by a piping design engineer within the Mission Engineering organization are drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, calculations, etc.
Works with other engineering disciplines and other plant organizations to produce timely design output.


Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology accredited program relevant Engineering discipline plus 10 or more years of relevant professional experience or an MS degree in a relevant Engineering discipline plus 10 or more years of relevant professional experience.
Must be able to do pipe stress analysis.
Experience with AutoPipe is a plus but not required.
Familiarity with and experience in developing designs in accordance with ASME B31.3 and ASME B31.1.
Experience in Nuclear Regulatory Commission or U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulated environment is desirable.
Requires an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
Must be willing to perform field walk-downs and work in a production environment.
Requires a DOE Q security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Successful drug screening.


Location/Work Arrangement:

This position is a fully onsite position at Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
