Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is:
Physical Effort: Performs moderate to heavy lifting (up to 60 pounds; if items weigh in excess to 40 pounds requests assistance). Moves material by hand or handtruck. Heavier material is moved by material handling equipment, or with the assistance of co-workers. Some effort may be involved in opening or sealing crates, cartons, drums and other containers. Work requires standing and/or walking for lengthy periods of time and often requires bending, stooping, pushing, and/or pulling material.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a warehouse environment or at outside work areas on a year-round basis. Subject to incumbent weather when working in open storage areas or on docks. Incumbent may be subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes, when moving or handling equipment. Also subject to hazards involved in working in close proximity to moving equipment such as conveyors, tow-line systems, and materials handling equipment. In addition, may also be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and to high noise levels in mechanized work areas. When working with hazardous materials, may be subject to exposure form radiation, toxins, explosive hazards or chemical fumes.
Safety and Health Requirements: Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned, as directed by the supervisor. Types of required protective clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to the following: eye, respiratory, and foot protection, protective clothing (gloves, apron, coveralls, etc.). Other types may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials. Employee will be required to wear approved hearing protective devices and an audiometric test will be conducted, as necessary, when working near or around noise hazardous areas, machinery, or equipment.

Drug-Free Workplace Policy
The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.
Applicants tentatively selected for employment in testing designated positions will undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Refusal to undergo testing or testing positive for illegal drugs will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and a six-month denial of employment with DLA from the date of the drug test. Employees in drug testing designated positions are subject to random drug testing.

- Leads a group of employees accomplishing materials examiner and identifier duties.
- Assigns work to employees and passes on instructions received from the supervisor.
- Trains and demonstrates proper work methods, procedures, and proper usage of materials handling or other equipment.
- Independently performs the full range of examining and identifying duties for the most complex categories of materials and equipment.
- Independently assigns coding classification and prepares detailed reports outlining the basis for final classification decisions.
- Processes material which is categorized as hazardous, radioactive, critical, sensitive-controlled, etc.
