Sr. System Safety Engineer

This position requires the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance. Candidates who do not hold this clearance are not eligible for hire.

Solidus is searching for a Sr System Safety Engineer.

This is an on-site role based in Tucson, AZ. Schedule: 9/80 work schedule

Day in the life:

• Developing and implementing one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs
• Performing MIL-STD-882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400).
• Analysis of engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance
• Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls
• Coordinating with customer safety representatives applying methods, standards, and techniques to provide clarification of system requirements to software, hardware, and test personnel to ensure design and architecture considerations are appropriately allocated to the system and horizontally integrated across the development teams
• Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds
• Performing System Safety planning, hazard analyses, and design analyses
• Briefing safety considerations at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
• Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
• Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
• Interfacing with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Hardware Engineering
• Managing System Safety Working Group(s) between key team and Customer

Clearance Requirements:

• US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a secret clearance
• Willingness to undergo comprehensive background investigation and pass a polygraph exam

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM)
• 5 years of relevant Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Safety Engineering experience. An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position.
• Experience with: System Safety Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering
• Cultural fit amongst a collaborative team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with DoD System Safety Programs e.g. MIL-STD-882
• Experience in electrical systems and/or weapon combat systems
• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills

Benefit selection, customer contractual specifications, relevant work experience, skills, competencies, certifications, and clearance status will influence the final salary.
Full benefits: $123,000 to $154,000 annually
Reduced benefits (no medical, dental, vision): Up to $166,000 annually
