The mission of the DoD Engagement Management team is to "Deliver with Excellence: PLAN, EXECUTE, CONTROL, BUDGET, STAFF, and COMMUNICATE with Excellence." We're seeking a highly skilled and versatile Senior Engagement Manager to lead the delivery of complex cloud solution projects that make a real difference for our Department of Defense customers.

What You'll Do
Technical Expertise & Solution Leadership
• Combine technical expertise with strong project leadership to drive successful AWS-based solution implementations
• Apply AWS frameworks (Well-Architected, Cloud Adoption Framework) and multiple delivery methodologies (Agile, Scaled Agile, Waterfall, ITIL)
• Distill customer needs into clear technical requirements, decompose complex problems, and make informed trade-off decisions
• Validate technical solutions against business goals, participate in architectural reviews, and manage technical risks
• Achieve and maintain relevant AWS certifications and develop domain-specific expertise (migration, database, healthcare, financial services)

Project & Program Management Excellence
• Create and lead comprehensive project plans for teams spanning AWS, customer, and partner resources
• Define and enforce delivery quality standards and engagement security protocols
• Facilitate release planning, align outcomes, build executable roadmaps, and organize complex workstreams
• Proactively identify and manage risks, resolve issues, escalate appropriately, and drive projects to successful completion
• Redirect distressed programs to delight customers and accelerate progress by clearing blockers

Strategic Communication & Influence
• Lead complex business and technical discussions, effectively communicating concepts to both technical and business audiences
• Build strategic relationships with appropriate stakeholders and overcome customer obstacles
• Build consensus, harmonize conflicting views, and drive resolution of contentious issues

Key job responsibilities
- Ambiguity: Own, lead, and shape large and/or complex engagements to deliver business outcomes. Deal effectively with the unexpected. Deliver independently with limited guidance. Redirect distressed programs to delight customers

- Scope & Influence: Influence multiple external teams. Actively mentor and develop others. Impact peers across teams/practices to improve delivery quality. Perform Technical Promotion Assessments (TPAs)

- Execution: Apply multiple delivery frameworks and develop comprehensive plans. Lead multi-workstream engagements. Maximize engagement value by negotiating conditions of acceptance within project constraints. Amend contractual scope, financials, and timelines as needed. Define and share EM best practices across teams. Apply principles of change management and transformation.

- Communication: Effectively communicate across diverse internal audiences (product, legal, finance, operations). Drive interactions and alignment with external stakeholders (partners, industry verticals). Interpret and critically evaluate documentation. Contribute to strategic documentation.

- Impact: Impact organizational metrics. Impact customer outcomes, adoption, and commitments. Impact AWS service offerings (e.g., ProServe offerings). Influence service team roadmap prioritization.

- Technical: Lead the lifecycle of complex technical engagements. Validate technical solutions meet business objectives and engagement goals. Articulate framework perspectives and phases. Educate others on technical frameworks and approaches.

- Process Improvement: Accelerate progress by creating or optimizing cross-team processes. Establish operational excellence standards. Create mechanisms enabling consistent management across matrixed teams. Act as a force multiplier for organizational efficiency.

A day in the life
You lead complex cloud projects for Department of Defense customers-modernization programs, classified system migrations, and AI/ML capabilities for defense operations. You're leading daily standups, sprint planning sessions, and backlog grooming with your delivery teams. You facilitate technical exchange meetings, sprint reviews, and demonstrations for stakeholders. You're troubleshooting technical issues, aligning military IT leaders and program managers who navigate strict security requirements, and conducting long-range planning sessions. You coordinate AWS specialists, solutions architects, and partner companies while advocating for project personnel and resources. You control project budgets, communicate with stakeholders and customers, and identify and mitigate risks constantly. You mentor other engagement managers, turn around distressed projects, and establish best practices.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of cloud computing experience
- Experience in project management of technical programs
- 5+ years of IT implementation experience
- Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above

Preferred Qualifications

- 1+ years of professional work experience, or experience with AWS services or other cloud offerings
- Knowledge of AWS services
- Project Management Professional (PMP) and/or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate
- Experience applying AWS frameworks like Well-Architected and Cloud Adoption Framework
- Proven ability to establish technical credibility with engineering teams and senior technical decision-makers
- Experience supporting National Security mission systems, and the ability to represent AWS within the customer's environment, driving discussions with senior personnel regarding trade-offs, best practices, project management, and risk mitigation.
- Hold at least one active project management certification, understand the value proposition of the public cloud and has delivered cloud engagements, presented to C-level executives and technical subject matter experts, balanced multiple stakeholders, and managed projects with 10+ resources, 6+ months, or $250k+ in contract value.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
