Database Developer

Location: Remote

Description:

Higher Echelon is seeking a highly skilled Database Developer to design, build, and maintain complex database systems that support critical business operations and data-driven decision making. This role will translate business requirements into robust data models and physical database architectures while ensuring performance, security, scalability, and data quality across enterprise environments. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in SQL development, data warehousing, and database optimization, along with the ability to collaborate closely with stakeholders and deliver reliable, high-quality database solutions. This is a 100% Remote role.

Job Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and maintain cloud-based data pipelines ingesting transactional systems, external data sources, and manual uploads, including large-scale analytics workloads

Lead improvements in data quality, synchronization, governance, and enterprise data architecture practices

Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovations for scalability, performance, and cost optimization

Establish database management systems, standards, requirements, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design and architecture, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan, and security policy

Work with clients to translate business requirements into a logical model that will accurately support and represent the client s entity relationship and flow of data.

Develop the appropriate database framework to convert the logical model into a physical model including the creation and maintenance of schemas containing windows, screens, tables and columns, and reports that support the model

Make recommendations to maximize operating efficiency, support storage requirements and vendor software updates, enforce data governance, and ensure recovery is maintained.

Participate in quality assurance and develop test application code in client server environment.

Collaborate in Agile CI/CD environments with scrum, DevOps, architecture, and production teams.

Required Skills:

Proven track record of working with complex database systems and data warehousing solutions.

Experience with database design, architecture, and data modeling.

Proficiency in SQL programming and query optimization. - Strong knowledge of database management systems (DBMS) such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.

Experience with performance tuning, indexing, and database query optimization techniques.

Ability to write and troubleshoot complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers.

CI/CD tool experience (Git, Jira, Jenkins, automated deployment workflows)

Hands-on experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines and large-scale analytics solutions (e.g., SSIS, Informatica, Talend).

Strong knowledge of enterprise data architecture, governance, security, and data movement concepts

Understanding of data warehousing concepts and technologies.

Experience with big data solutions, analytic models, and rapid prototyping in enterprise environments

Understanding of cloud cost optimization and production lifecycle management

Knowledge of backup and recovery processes.

Experience with database security, user roles, and permissions.

Familiarity with cloud database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database) is a plus.

Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell for database automation tasks.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Capability to work independently and as part of a team.

Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.

Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Strong understanding of business processes and requirements gathering.

Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior developers.

SQL development and database management experience

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance

Desired Skills:

Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git)

Familiarity with Agile development methodologies is a plus.

Advanced certifications in database management systems (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Certified Professional) are preferred.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, electronics engineering or other engineering or technical discipline is required with eight (8) years or more experience.

8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education

Minimum of 8 years of experience in SQL development and database management.
