Job Description
The Messaging Engineer will support enterprise-level messaging and mobile device management (MDM) services within a complex federal IT environment. This role is responsible for the design, configuration, integration, testing, release, maintenance, and operational support of Microsoft cloud-based messaging platforms.
On a day-to-day basis, the engineer will work closely with service desk teams, infrastructure engineering, desktop engineering, and federal stakeholders to ensure the availability, performance, and security of email and MDM services. The role plays a critical part in maintaining reliable communications systems used across a large government organization.
This position is ideal for a senior-level messaging professional who enjoys hands-on technical ownership, structured change management, and working in environments where uptime, security, and compliance are mission-critical.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design, configure, integrate, test, and support Microsoft O365 Cloud and Exchange environments.
Support Intune and mobile device management services integrated with Apple Business Manager.
Coordinate incident management activities including prioritization, troubleshooting, resolution, and closure.
Manage change and release processes for messaging and MDM services, including upgrades and patches.
Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term resolutions for service disruptions.
Collaborate with infrastructure, application hosting, and third-party vendors.
Assess security incidents and vulnerabilities and support remediation efforts.
Monitor system performance, licensing, access, and capacity utilization.
Maintain documentation including architectures, SOPs, work instructions, and knowledge articles.
Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation.
Provide operational reporting, stakeholder communication, and risk tracking.
Required Experience / Skills
Minimum 8 years of experience supporting Enterprise Messaging Services.
Proven experience with Microsoft O365 Cloud, Exchange, Outlook, and OneDrive for Business.
Strong experience with Intune, MDM, and Apple Business Manager.
Experience supporting Azure and Microsoft Security & Compliance tools.
Hands-on experience with incident, problem, configuration, and change management processes.
Ability to work in highly regulated, security-driven environments.
U.S. Citizenship or Green Card status with minimum 3 years U.S. residency.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Nice-to-Haves
Microsoft O365 certification or equivalent.
Experience supporting federal or public-sector IT programs.
Strong customer-facing communication skills.
Ability to operate as a technical consultant and change agent.
Experience working in hybrid government environments.
Education
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
