Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add a Staff Electronics Engineer - Sensors Responsible Engineer to our team in San Diego (Rancho Bernardo), CA. This position will be in our Avionics Integration Organization supporting the Triton Program.

The selected candidate will serve as the MFAS RADAR Responsible Engineer supporting the entire program lifecycle to include development, production, and sustainment of Triton RADAR system as a member of the Mission Systems Integrated Product Team (IPT) Sensors Team.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform RADAR subsystem analysis, documentation of system requirements, and interfaces with traceability to platform requirements
  • Perform review and analysis of supplier design and test data including acceptance, qualification, and system integration
  • Perform/support design reviews or reviews of design related documentation (ICDs, system and subsystem design documents, etc.)
  • Lead system-level integration activities of new radar capabilities
  • Perform lab and flight test planning and support execution
  • Evaluate flight test performance and prepare test reports
  • Maintain configuration control of radar subsystem through integrated change management to include management of the supplier software baseline
  • Develop strategy and plans for regression test and verification of new radar modes as applicable
  • Perform troubleshooting investigation and analysis to mitigate issues affecting mission availability and/or radar performance in the operational fleet
  • Working within an IPT environment, provide mentorship to early career sensors engineers and interface with IPT leadership, suppliers, and customers
  • Brief both technical and nontechnical personnel on topics related to the radar subsystem
  • Coordinate identification, tracking, and resolution of risks, issues, and opportunities including root cause/corrective action of technical issues


The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. Once established in role, the position could potentially offer a hybrid work environment. Telework days are approved at manager's discretion. This position requires the ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 12 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in a relevant STEM discipline and 10 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a relevant STEM discipline with 8 years of related engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating RADAR performance
  • Demonstrated experience with RF maritime RADAR
  • Knowledge of STANAG 4607 and NITF Standards
  • Experience with post flight data analysis
  • Active DoD Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance once in role.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance. This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active, in-scope DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Experience with Air-to-Ground RADAR systems
  • Experience leading a team of engineers
  • Experience with aerospace development, production, or operations.
  • Ability to communicate complex issues effectively to crowds with diverse perspectives
  • Ability to prioritize disparate tasks
  • Experience using MATLAB
  • RF Radar experience in Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI) and Air-to-Air Radar Detection
  • Experience in evaluating target location error performance, sensor interfacing to navigation, power, cooling, command and control interfaces
  • Experience in Maritime Surface Search (MSS), Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) Imagery, Synthetic Aperture Radar Imagery (SAR), Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) concepts, pulse width / pulse modulation, spatial modes, tracking, Radar processing
  • Experience in Military Environmental Qualification, Electro Magnetic Interference Qualification, and Electrical Power Qualification


Primary Level Salary Range: $177,000.00 - $265,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
