Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join high-impact a high - impact engineering team advancing next - generation transportation technologies . This role is located in McLean, VA through 100% full onsite presence . The Lead Software Engineer will drive the design & deployment of computer vision & automation solutions that support intelligent transportation systems, automated mobility, & AI-enabled transportation safety & operations.

Responsibilities of the Lead Software Engineer include:
  • Lead the design, development & delivery of software systems incorporating computer vision, object detection & automation for transportation applications
  • Serve as the technical lead on medium-to-large projects, overseeing system architecture, development workflows, & delivery milestones
  • Support business development through proposal writing, client engagement, & identifying new opportunities for applying computer vision in transportation
  • Break down program-level & project requirements into actionable engineering tasks & guide development teams through execution
  • Collaborate with program managers, contracting officers, & stakeholders to ensure technical alignment, regulatory compliance, & mission-focused outcomes
  • Mentor engineering staff on advanced technologies, secure development practices & automation techniques

Qualifications of the Lead Software Engineer include:
  • Master's Degree with 5+ years of experience or Bachelor's Degree with 7+ years of experience
  • 5+ years of experience developing computer vision or automation solutions using camera, lidar, and/or radar data in transportation or automotive environments
  • Hands-on expertise with programming in Python, C++, or Java
  • Business development experience identifying opportunities, building partnerships and supporting portfolio growth
  • Active Public Trust clearance

Compensation for the Lead Software Engineer includes:
  • Salary: $95,000-$130,000 **depending on experience**
  • Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k Plan, Holidays, PTO, sick leave as required by law
