- You will act as helmsman, steer a gyro/compass course, stand a proper look-out watch, act as a member of the fire fighting/dewatering team and make proper tie-up of craft to piers and docks.
- You will utilize knowledge of craft operations and navigation including rules of the road and seamanship in order to assist ship operators and perform required duties.
- You will perform repair and maintenance duties of a variety of deck machinery/equipment.
- You will handle lines and cables during docking and range operations on all classes of range craft.
- You will interpret instructions, blueprints, diagrams, and other technical documents; determining plans, materials, and tools required.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current OPNAVINST 8023.24D, ammunition and explosives handling qualification and certification.
- You must possess and maintain, at a minimum, a U.S. Coast Guard Able Body Seaman Special or Limited Merchant Marine document.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

- Must possess a valid STCW Basic Safety certificate (or inland equivalent). The ideal candidate holds an Able Seaman (AB) credential. Must know what general alarms (fire, man overboard, abandon ship) sound like and what their immediate actions should be. Must be able to locate and don a lifejacket and understand basic emergency duties without prompting.
- Must be able to safely and competently handle mooring lines (rope and wire) during docking and undocking. This includes knowing how to properly place a line on a bitt or cleat, handle lines under tension, and operate mooring winches or capstans in response to standard commands.
- Must have practical experience standing a navigational watch as a lookout. This includes knowing how to keep a proper lookout, identify and report contacts (other vessels, buoys), marine mammal and other hazards to the craft master using standard procedures and terminology.
- Proven track record of performing preventative maintenance on deck equipment, not just operating it. Their background includes tasks like greasing winches, assisting with fluid changes, and making minor repairs with hand and power tools.
