Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a professional admissions advisor providing general admissions and program eligibility advice (counseling) to US military, civilian, and international students seeking admission to Air University degree programs at Air War College and Air Command and Staff College (resident and nonresident).
Conditions of employment
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management/Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the GS-1702, Education and Training Technician Series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems that demonstrates the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position including knowledge of admission requirements for advanced academic degree programs to include international students. Broad, working knowledge of Air Force, Air University, and regulations, policies, and procedures for the day-to-day administration of a degree-granting academic program, including precedents and special exemptions, and techniques for the resident and non-resident part-time student programs. Knowledge of the operational and organizational structure of University academic programs, both formal and informal, especially the role of the Registrar's Office. Analytical skill is required to evaluate current processes and to research data to prepare reports. Familiarity with curriculum and academic program structure in a University setting. Extensive knowledge of academic policies and procedures with demonstrated mastery of application Ability to multi-task and change priority easily, and the ability to adapt and learn new techniques as technology creates an impact on the day-to-day activities.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Bachelor's degree in education related area of study is required, along with knowledge of the American college systems, including university organization requirements for degrees, accreditation, and grading systems is desirable.
2. Knowledge of academic policies, standards, laws and other regulatory governing all aspects of post-secondary education.
3. Knowledge of post-secondary admission functions and processes.Skill in assisting DOD officers and international officers through the admissions process.
4. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office software programs and databases and program unique software.
5. Skill in effective oral and written communication to develop and brief leadership including the ability to deal with diverse populations, clearly, concisely and with technical accuracy. Ability to work harmoniously with all levels of personnel.
6. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple tasking concurrently with minimal supervision. Ability to analysis problems that may occur in admission procedures and develop timely solutions.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

- Provides academic advice to US military of all branches, federal civilian personnel from all services and various component agencies, and international military applying for admission to degree programs.
- Prepares written documents and briefs various groups as required to communicate a thorough understanding of the admissions process, eligibility requirements, and related administrative tasks.
- Performs a variety of academic and administrative duties related to AU Academic programs admissions.
- Establishes and implements schedule for admissions for various programs based on academic calendar for resident semester terms, non-resident traditional (long) terms, and shortened mini-terms.
- Receives incoming telephone calls, correspondence and e-mails from graduates; AU faculty, education personnel, other institutions and various offices within DoD on admissions issues.
