Design, develop, and sustain secure, mission-critical software systems supporting national defense operations in Linux-based environments.
A Day in the Life - What You'll Do
- Design, develop, maintain, and enhance complex, secure software systems based on documented requirements
- Review, test, and validate software components to ensure compliance with design and performance specifications
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Apply Agile software development methodologies in a collaborative engineering environment
- Contribute to system and software architecture decisions, including hardware/software tradeoffs and reuse strategies
- Support Linux-based applications operating in secure, networked mission environments
Required Qualifications (All Levels)
Citizenship & Clearance
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Active DoD Secret clearance at time of application
- Software development experience in one or more of the following languages:
- Java
- Rust
- C
- C++
- C#
- Python
- Experience debugging existing software and correcting defects
- Experience working across the SDLC using Agile methodologies
- Development experience in a Linux environment, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
- Demonstrated experience developing Linux-based software applications
Education & Experience Requirements by Level
Software Engineer II
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM discipline with 2+ years of relevant experience
- OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 0+ years of relevant experience
Principal Software Engineer
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience
- OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience
- OR PhD in a STEM discipline with 1+ year of relevant experience
Senior Principal Software Engineer
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related STEM discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience
- OR Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 6+ years of relevant experience
- OR PhD in a STEM discipline with 4+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications (All Levels)
- Experience using Bash or similar scripting languages for automation
- Experience configuring and using static code analysis tools such as SonarQube or Fortify
- Experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., Eggplant, Microsoft Testing Framework)
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Bamboo
- Proficiency using Git or other Software Configuration Management tools
- Experience using Visual Studio Code (VS Code)
- Experience creating XML Schema Definitions (XSD) based on complex interface requirements
- Development experience with:
- Sockets
- Message queues
- Multithreading
- Named pipes
- Knowledge of HTTP, IP, and UDP networking protocols
- Experience with containers or LXC technologies
- Demonstrated experience working with XML schemas and XML processing tools
- Knowledge of secure networking and communication techniques
