A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography.

B. Combination of Education and Experience: Course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (Note: Acceptable experience may have been gained through geological field or laboratory work that provided a means of obtaining professional knowledge of the theory and application of the principles of geology and closely related sciences, e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, or hydrology. Such work generally must have involved making close observations, taking samples, handling various types of instruments and equipment, assembling geologic data from source materials, and analyzing and reporting findings orally and in writing. In some situations, professional scientific experience in other fields may be accepted in part as professional geological experience. Such experience must have been preceded by appropriate education in geology or by professional geological experience, and must have contributed directly and significantly to the applicant's professional geological competence. Specialized experience To qualify, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Providing strategic oversight of environmental cleanup and compliance programs including managing all phases from site assessment through design and construction to ensure full regulatory compliance; 2) Aligning strategic planning with budgets, staffing levels, and schedules to successfully deliver high-visibility projects on time and within constraints; 3) Developing environmental protocols governing investigations, design, remediation, and regulatory compliance; 4) Resolving areas of conflict among multiple stakeholders regarding regulatory and/or statutory provisions, objectives, scope of design and remediation, and other special environmental support needs; and 5) Exercising supervisory responsibilities by assigning and reviewing work, evaluating staff performance, managing personnel issues, and participating in hiring and onboarding. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-14.

- Serves as Chief, Environmental Support Branch, providing leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for environmental restoration, remediation, and compliance programs.
- Plans, formulates, implements, and evaluates environmental and remedial action programs across all project phases, ensuring compliance with applicable Federal laws and regulations.
- Manages program resources, including budgets, schedules, and staffing, and develops long- and short-range strategic plans to accomplish mission objectives efficiently and effectively.
- Provides expert technical and policy guidance on complex, high-visibility, and controversial environmental projects, advising agency senior leaders and other Federal officials on program execution and interpretation of legislation and policy.
- Establishes long- and short-range strategic plans, determines program goals, and allocates fiscal and manpower resources to ensure efficient and timely program execution.
- Represents the organization in engagements with senior officials from other Federal agencies, the White House, Congress, Inspector General, and audit organizations, responding to inquiries and reviews related to environmental programs and practices.
- Supervises and leads a multidisciplinary staff of engineers, environmental specialists, and support personnel; assigns work, evaluates performance, resolves minor grievances, takes disciplinary actions, and recruits and selects staff.
