Duties

As a WRITER EDITOR at the GS-1082-12 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • The Commander's speechwriter plans, research, and prepare new products and revises existing ones.
  • Writes material on a variety of subjects such as reports, articles, general messages, talking points, scripts and speeches.
  • Edits texts and other written materials with Commander endorsement or equity; manages individual or serial publications from initial conception and content determination through to distribution and coordinates the activities of other publishing personnel.
  • Assists subject-matter experts to meet required publication standards.

Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Speechwriter experience researching and writing keynote speeches, opening/closing remarks, memoranda/letters/emails, discussion points, articles, and other correspondence.
  • Analyzes and organizes information so that ideas are presented logically, coherently and clearly.
  • Writes and edits Commanders reports, articles, scripts, general messages, talking points and speeches in support of traditional and digitally formatted feature products.
  • Evaluates news stories, information products, magazine articles and images to determine the appropriate level of coverage to communicate information about the command to military and civilian audiences.
  • Communicates effectively, orally and in writing, to offer advice to senior level Commander and staff

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
