The Quality & Safety Manager supports the Sacramento, California CAL Fire program and its Program Manager by providing subject matter guidance on quality and safety matters. The role is responsible for advising program leadership, developing recommendations, and assisting in the preparation of management documentation related to quality assurance, safety practices, and continuous improvement efforts. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Quality and Continuous Improvement at M1’shome office, with dotted-line reporting to the CAL Fire Program Manager.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Responsible and accountable to the Vice President/PM on all issues regarding Quality and EH&S.
• Has overarching responsibility for Quality Management, Quality Assurance, and EH&S personnel and functions on the CALFire contract and sub locations.
• Responsible for managing and implementing the Company Quality Control Plan and Quality Management System (QMS) across the CAL Fire contract IAW the PWS.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve safety operations, eliminate mishaps, and protect resources.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease cycle time and streamline workflow processes.
• Develops and sustains a culture of safety, quality compliance, and professionalism.
• Ensures compliance with directives, technical manuals, work standards, safety procedures, and company policies relating to aircraft maintenance operations.
• Ensures sufficient, technical data, tools and equipment are available for planned work.
• Ensures employees possess the qualifications and certifications necessary to perform their jobs and ensures compliance with confined spaced entry operations.
• Has overarching responsibility of the management and implementation of the air, ground, and industrial safety programs on the CALFIRE Program IAW Company, PWS, federal, state, and local regulatory guidance • Provides quality and safety leadership across a dynamic CALFIRE aviation operation, including surge wildfire response periods, sustained high operational tempo, and coordination across multiple CALFIRE operating locations throughout California. Additional Duties as Assigned • Will perform relevant additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience: Education
• Bachelor’s degree in business management, Aviation Maintenance, or a related field preferred.
Experience
• In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years of quality management experience in a related field, including 15 years of experience in a military aviation environment, may be considered.
• 5 years of Safety program management/administration experience preferred.
• Experience within ISO 45001 standard and auditing. Skills
• Current ISO or AS 9110 Lead Auditor certification preferred: knowledge of quality management system requirements, safety standards and general experience in dealing with environmental issues.
• Comprehensive understanding of aircraft maintenance, safety and quality control procedures in an aviation environment.
• Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to deal with stressful situations and timelines while maintaining a professional and non-confrontational attitude.
• Must be able to communicate and present briefings to company and customer leadership in small and large group settings as required. • Must possess competent computer skills.
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
Working Conditions:
• The environment varies from office to hangar and flight line, necessitating extensive physical activity including climbing, standing stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking.
• Employee may be exposed to excessive noises due to close proximity to flightline and/or aircraft hangars (aircraft engines, ground support equipment, etc.) requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
• Position requires periodic travel between CALFIRE operating locations and on-site presence during high tempo wildfire response operations.
