HX5 is currently seeking a Lead Cyber Systems Engineer to join the team with NASA at Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Lead Cyber Systems Engineer will:
- Serve as a Cyber Systems Lead for Gateway Software & Avionics systems
- Provide detailed engineering analysis and technical consultation for the development, design, testing, and evaluation of spacecraft systems, software, hardware, and cybersecurity
- Provide technical guidance, oversight, and resolution of technical issues for NASA projects and programs related to Software and Avionics systems
- Define and implement Software & Avionics cybersecurity requirements for spacecraft
- Manage and direct analysis tasks, testing, and research related to systems and cybersecurity
- Perform cybersecurity impact assessments
- Coordinate with internal and external organizations to support cybersecurity remediation efforts
- Effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Operate successfully in a highly dynamic simulation engineering environment, supporting rapid development of spacecraft software and avionics systems
- Demonstrate strong customer focus, effective communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing
engineering environment with demanding schedules - Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a
related area. - Eligible for US Govt Secret security clearance
- Experience with either Avionic Electrical or Software Systems Design and Development
- Thorough knowledge of Computer Networking Technology, such as: IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet) standards
- Experience with cybersecurity impact assessment and remediation
- Familiarity with cybersecurity controls and requirements such as NIST
- NIST SP 800-53 'Recommended Security Controls for Federal Information Systems'
- NASA NPR2810.1A 'Security of Information Technology'
- Experience with: Network Design, Network Management Tools, IT Security, Network Troubleshooting Techniques
- Familiarity with commercial products available in computer networking technology
- Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customer service attitude
Preferences

- Experience with cybersecurity planning, auditing, and vulnerability scanning
- Experience with avionics cybersecurity system maintenance (disabling services, effective countermeasures, intrusion
detection, firewall configuration, etc.) - Experience with spacecraft avionics and circuit design or analysis
- Experience in the application of computer network technology in space systems.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position and offers a 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off).
Work Environment:
- Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
- Equipment and Machines - Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Physical Requirements:
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time).
- May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Other Position Requirements:
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
- Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and
adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
