Zachary Piper solutions is seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator / Software Developer to join a rapidly growing team supporting the Department of Transportation! The Database Developer will support the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise database systems used for field data collection, spatial data management, and reporting. This role combines database administration, software development, and GIS integration to ensure reliable data workflows, data integrity, and accurate reporting for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
This position is onsite in Ashburn, VA and requires eligibility for a U.S. Public Trust clearance
Responsibilities of the Database Developer:
• Develop, administer, and optimize Oracle and SQL Server database systems
• Design and maintain database objects, including tables, triggers, packages, and procedures
• Build and maintain tools, scripts, and applications to support data ingestion, processing, QC, and reporting workflows
• Manage spatial (GIS) data structures and integrations using ArcGIS platforms
• Import, export, validate, and archive datasets while maintaining data accuracy and historical records
• Implement database performance tuning, testing, and compatibility validation
• Maintain data integrity through established QC processes and referential integrity standards
• Support reporting and visualization deliverables for both technical and non-technical audiences
• Apply Agile or similar methodologies for development and project execution
• Maintain documentation, version control, and backup/recovery processes for all database systems
Qualifications of the Database Developer:
• Experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database development and administration
• Proficiency with SQL/PL-SQL and experience developing stored procedures, triggers, and functions
• Experience with Python or similar scripting languages for automation and data processing
• Experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Desktop/Pro and ArcSDE/ArcGIS Enterprise
• Familiarity with spatial data management, geodatabases, and geoprocessing workflows
• Experience integrating databases with reporting tools and/or web applications
• Strong understanding of data integrity, QC processes, and performance optimization
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to functional and leadership stakeholders
Compensation and Benefits :
• 85,000 - $95,000 ( Dependent on experience )
