Duties
Help
  • You will perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of building, grounds, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.
  • You will determine the methods, techniques, devices, and materials that are best suited to the surface finished required.
  • You will construct and repair a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, interior and exterior trim, and miscellaneous items such as bookcases, cabinets, etc.
  • You will construct, maintain, install, modify, and repair electric power and lighting systems and all associated circuits.
  • You will lay out pipping systems or sections and plans assembly in relation to walls, passageways, obstructions, underground, tunnels, locations of machinery, appropriate places for holes, and similar considerations.

  • Position requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 44 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weight over 45 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items.
  • Work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, greasy, smokey, dusty, noisy, fumes, cold, dampness, etc.
  • Work must sometimes be performed outside in bad weather and in areas that are noisy and where bad smelling toxic fumes are present.
  • Incumbent may be required to work up to 60 feet off the ground on platforms, work stands, or ladders.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF AN MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-4749-10 WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION performing masonry, framing, rigging, electrical work, sheetrock installation, flooring installation, roof and drain cleaning, and other renovation tasks, and reading blueprints and performing various maintenance and repair duties to ensure the proper functioning of the facility.
