The Senior Action Officer serves as the principal integrator and advisor to NSDD senior leadership, translating strategic priorities into executable plans, coordinating stakeholders across the program, and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery. The role requires experience in policy or program management, interagency coordination, and executive-level communications. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the tasker governance process: triage, assign, track, and quality-control responses; synthesize inputs into decision-ready products (issue papers, decision memos, briefing notes) and ensure message alignment with NSDD/NNSA leadership.
  • Lead projects and initiatives on behalf of senior leadership with minimal oversight to successfully executive senior actions in a timely manner.
  • Prepare leadership for engagements by developing talking points, briefings, agendas, read-aheads, and after-action reports; when delegated, represent senior leadership in internal and interagency meetings.
  • Coordinate interoffice and interagency collaboration with NNSA/DOE elements, other federal partners, and stakeholders; maintain strong relationships to expedite decisions and resolve issues.
  • Oversee strategic communications and congressional correspondence: ensure consistent messaging, manage clearance/coordination, and maintain a current repository of approved positions and historical context.
  • Drive process improvement and knowledge management: design and implement standardized workflows, dashboards, and trackers (e.g., SharePoint/Teams/PowerBI) to improve transparency, cycle time, and quality.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and special projects on behalf of senior leadership, including policy analysis, program assessments, and organizational change efforts.
  • Support records management and compliance (FOIA, correspondence standards, records schedules) and ensure audit-ready documentation.
  • Coordinate executive engagement logistics (visitor escort, meeting setup, read-ahead distribution)
  • Act as a team lead for the contract company to include supervisory responsibilities of 3-5 staff members to include review timesheets, travel expense reports, assist with onboarding, and mentor staff.


Job Requirements (Education/Skills/Experience):

Position Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a trusted advisor to senior executives, with strong judgment, discretion, and executive presence.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and driving complex initiatives to completion under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills for executive audiences; ability to produce concise, decision-ready materials and synthesize input from multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience developing metrics, dashboards, risk registers, and performance reporting.
  • Deep familiarity with federal correspondence and coordination processes, including congressional engagement, policy clearance, and records management.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint; experience with task tracking and collaboration tools; PowerBI or similar analytics tools preferred.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and proactive; able to prioritize and manage heavy workloads in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to build relationships and influence without formal authority across NSDD/NNSA, DOE, and interagency partners.
  • Knowledge of DOE/NNSA mission, structures, and processes; experience in national security, nonproliferation, or related policy/program areas preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q (TS equivalent) clearance; existing clearance preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in public administration, policy, business, communications, international affairs, or a related field; advanced degree (MPA/MPP/MBA/MA) preferred.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Active DOE Q or DOD TS Clearance
  • Interest in international government affairs
  • Experience supporting congressional or federal government programs
  • Smartsheet Core Product Certification (or other workflow-related experience)
  • Experience constructing and coordinating social media posts for public affairs
  • Strong research and analytical skills


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift a min of 15 pounds at times.
  • Travel to domestic and international locations may be required, as requested. (Up to 15%)
