Overview

GovCIOis currently hiring for a Senior PaaS Cutter System Engineer / Administrator specializing in Windows Server and Microsoft Hyper V support, to provide day to day engineering and operational administration for a mission critical U.S. Coast Guard program. This position will be located in Kearneysville, WV and will be a hybrid position .

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have hands on experience engineering and managing physical Hyper V server infrastructure while supporting both shoreside and cutter environments across UNCLAS and SIPR networks. This role includes handling senior level escalated troubleshooting, performing system engineering, server imaging, configuration, and platform sustainment, collaborating with multiple engineering teams, and ensuring the reliability, availability, security, and lifecycle support of the operational environment.

  • Engineer, implement, and resolve escalated tickets for physical Hyper-V servers running Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, and 2019.
  • Serve as the PaaS Cutter System Administrator, responsible for platform service availability, configuration control, and lifecycle sustainment in cutter environments.
  • Provide senior level operational and engineering support for server images and platform builds, including testing, validation, security hardening, and quarterly patch captures.
  • Coordinate with Dell and other enterprise hardware vendors for warranty service, diagnostics, component replacement, and lifecycle planning.
  • Maintain and engineer Windows Deployment Services (WDS) to support PXE based server and platform deployments.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, ICO, Collaboration, Security, Commvault, Patch Management, and Vulnerability Management teams to support system performance and security posture.
  • Support U.S. Coast Guard cutter modernization initiatives, including server recapitalization, OS upgrades, and platform refresh efforts.
  • Assist in maintaining shoreside physical Hyper-V servers, including sustainment, lifecycle, and modernization activities.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD and U.S. Coast Guard security requirements, STIGs, and operational directives.
  • Document engineering designs, configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes.
  • Generate and analyze system health, performance, availability, and capacity reports as required .


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology , Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field with 8 + years (or commensurate expertise ).

Required Skills and Experience

  • Certifications: DoD 8570 IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA +)
  • Windows Server Engineering: Experience supporting Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, and 2019 in mission critical enterprise environments.
  • Microsoft Hyper-V : Hands on experience engineering and administering physical Hyper V host infrastructure.
  • PaaS Administration: Experience supporting Platform as a Service (PaaS) environments , including configuration control and lifecycle management.
  • Hardware Management: Experience working with enterprise server hardware, vendor coordination, diagnostics, and component replacement.
  • Server Imaging: Proficiency with server image management, patching workflows, WDS, and PXE based deployments.
  • Network Environments: Experience operating within UNCLAS and SIPR environments.
  • Troubleshooting: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex hardware, virtualization, and OS level issues.
  • Documentation: Ability to produce clear, detailed technical and engineering documentation.


Clearance Required: Must have an active Secret clearance

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting DoD or U.S. Coast Guard cutter environments
  • Experience performing cutter system administration in degraded, disconnected, or limited bandwidth conditions
  • Experience supporting server recapitalization, modernization, and operating system upgrade efforts
  • Understanding of PaaS, IaaS, and hybrid infrastructure models in operational environments
  • Familiarity with Commvault, vulnerability management tools, and patch management workflows
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and operations teams
  • Strong communication skills for briefing technical and non technical stakeholders .

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process.
