Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a dynamic and highly accomplished Manager, Systems Engineering 3 - SEIT Department Manager to join our Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) team within the Launch and Exploration Division, Launch Systems Business Unit, at our Chandler, AZ facility.
As a key leader, you will report to the SEIT Director (Arizona) while providing functional and strategic oversight for a diverse team of 70+ Systems Engineers specializing in Launch Vehicle and Missile Systems Engineering, Mission Engineering, and Systems Safety. Your leadership will extend across all aspects of Systems Engineering, influencing cutting-edge technologies and high-stakes programs that are critical to both national defense and space exploration goals. Primary Level Salary Range: $166,700.00 - $250,400.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

- Inspire and Lead High-Caliber Professionals: Serve as the functional manager for a span of control exceeding 70 personnel, including direct oversight of ~15 highly skilled section managers and senior-level engineers. Your leadership will cultivate an environment of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence while advancing individual and team performance.
- Strategic Vision and Policy Setting: Work with the SEIT Director to define and implement a forward-looking vision and department-level strategies that align with enterprise directives. Craft impactful department processes, command media, and training programs that elevate team capabilities and foster compliance with engineering best practices.
- Mentorship and Talent Development: Mentor and develop managers and senior engineers (Level 5 and higher), shaping the next generation of technical and organizational leaders. Guide new hires and junior staff through comprehensive onboarding, training, and development plans.
- Independent Technical Oversight: Provide independent reviews of complex designs, schedules, and budgets to ensure alignment with customer requirements and program objectives. Represent your department in high-stakes program reviews, customer-facing meetings, and executive-level presentations.
- Operational Excellence Across Programs: Bring technical and administrative expertise to the department's day-to-day execution of programs, driving the successful delivery of intricate engineering solutions. Contribute technical leadership as required, ensuring SEIT processes and program performance meet the highest standards.
- Direct Systems Engineering Impact: While your focus will be primarily functional management, you will also contribute hands-on technical input in support of critical programs, fostering a deep connection with engineering operations and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of program challenges.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
People Leadership:
- Functional oversight of 70+ individuals, encompassing direct management of section managers as well as senior engineers.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide consistent feedback, and foster a sense of accountability throughout the team.
- Lead initiatives around vision setting, goal creation, and department alignment with key strategic objectives.
- Design and manage training, onboarding, and mentorship programs that empower your team to thrive.
Technical Oversight and Leadership:
- Provide expert-level technical oversight of SEIT deliverables, including interface management, requirements development, verification plans, trade studies, and risk assessments.
- Oversee technical reviews to ensure compliance with customer specifications, engineering fundamentals, and best practices.
- Resolve challenges in areas such as systems design, system safety, and failure analysis, acting as the authoritative guide when addressing complex technical questions.
Operational Excellence:
- Establish metrics and reporting systems to track department performance and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Oversee continuous improvement activities and recommend technical and organizational innovations.
- Support independent design reviews and high-level problem-solving efforts on program-critical issues.
Collaboration and Engagement:
- Collaborate closely with the SEIT Director (Arizona) and Central Region Engineering (CRE) SEIT Senior Director, presenting key policy recommendations and championing department initiatives.
- Represent your department in executive reviews, customer engagements, and mission-critical presentations.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with a minimum of 9 years of related experience (or Master's degree with 7 years of experience).
- At least 5 years of prior experience in a management role.
- Current DoD SECRET clearance (or higher).
- Deep knowledge of Systems Engineering principles (e.g., requirements development, interface management, verification, risk management, etc.).
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and managing senior-level personnel in an engineering environment.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with senior leadership, customers, and technical stakeholders.
- System Safety exposure / understanding / experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 15+ years of Systems Engineering experience.
- Master's Degree in Systems Engineering or Systems Engineering certification (e.g., INCOSE).
- Proficiency in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies.
- Background and familiarity with system modeling and simulation
- Familiarity with mission engineering
- Expertise in rocket and missile systems development.
- Direct experience in independent design reviews, failure analysis, and launch operations.
