Primary Level Salary Range: $87,600.00 - $131,400.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sustainment Engineer (level 2) or Principal Sustainment Engineer (level 3) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.
Essential Functions:
- Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions to support the sustainment of GWS hardware and software systems.
- Conduct sustainment activities, including preventive maintenance, system upgrades, repairs, and the replacement of obsolete components, with a focus on mission readiness.
- Collaborate with engineering, program management, and supply chain teams to execute sustainment and modernization plans.
- Monitor system performance and metrics, analyze data trends, and recommend advanced strategies for preventive or predictive maintenance.
- Support integration of new technologies and implementation of system modifications to improve reliability and extend the operational lifecycle of GWS systems.
- Engage directly with customers and stakeholders to resolve urgent issues, present technical recommendations, and maintain strong working relationships.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including sustainment procedures, technical reports, risk assessments, and sustainment roadmaps.
- Participate in field tests, system evaluations, and sustainment reviews to validate system upgrades and modifications.
- Support risk management efforts, including tracking obsolescence risks and implementing mitigation strategies for hardware and software components.
- Provide recommendations and input for improving sustainment practices and addressing long-term system challenges.
Basic Qualifications:
- (Level 2) - Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) discipline and 2 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 0 years of experience.
- (Level 3) - Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with 1 year of experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
- Demonstrated experience with system troubleshooting, including fault isolation and corrective actions.
- Familiarity with sustainment practices for hardware, software, or integrated systems.
- Strong skills in technical communication, documentation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and provide effective solutions in a dynamic, mission-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience sustaining GWS, Ground-Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD), or similar weapon systems.
- Familiarity with the Air Force's Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS).
- Direct experience diagnosing and resolving system-level issues in hardware, software, and network components.
- Knowledge of sustainment and lifecycle management tools, risk analysis, and obsolescence tracking.
- Strong analytical skills, including experience with tools like MATLAB, LabVIEW, or system modeling platforms.
- Leadership experience in sustainment or modernization efforts, including overseeing upgrades or integration projects.
- Familiarity with predictive maintenance practices and data analytics to enhance system readiness.
- Active DoD Secret clearance or higher preferred.
