Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Facilities Engineer (level 4) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.

Essential Functions:
  • Project planning, budgeting, contract management, overseeing project execution and reporting on a daily/weekly basis
  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems and project management skills including being proficient reviewing drawings and interpreting facility specifications.
  • Collaborate/Coordinate with various stakeholders, from department engineers, managers, and contractors to regulatory bodies
  • Routine involvement and influence with developing site maintenance processes/procedures and planning
  • Project Management: Lead projects from concept to completion, including design, scope definition, budget, schedule management, shipping and contractor oversight
  • Design & Engineering: Oversee the design and installation of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and other building infrastructure to ensure it meets the design and system requirements.
  • Maintenance & Operations: Influence/develop preventative maintenance programs and repair activities to ensure building systems are operational, safe and secure.
  • Compliance: partner with EHS on all facilities and projects to adhere to local, state, and federal health, safety, fire and environmental regulations.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as a central point of contact, collaborating/coordinating with internal teams, external consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Budgeting & Cost Control: Assist in budget planning, monitor project costs, and manage contract budget to ensure projects stay within projected cost.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, Security systems and utility systems, including Chillers, cooling towers, HVAC and building automation systems.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing multiple facilities-related projects, including budgeting, scheduling, contract administration and multi-contractor management.
  • Software Proficiency: Microsoft Site, project timeline and scheduling
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex facility issues and design challenges.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders providing precise direction.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in using engineering and project management software tools such as AutoCAD and project scheduling software like Microsoft Project
  • Experience supporting Site Surveys, Facility Design Reviews and providing comments in a government/contractor mixed environment.
  • Experience interpreting/decomposing system requirements to ensure the facility is constructed to support installation of the system per the approved design.
  • Expertise in building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems, with experience in optimizing these systems for operational effectiveness.
  • Experience with facility construction processes and the ability to perform in process inspections, communicate deficiencies to the government/contractor and determine construction progress.
  • Familiarity with shipping equipment to sites based on the Packaging, Handling Shipping and Transportation document including off loading at site.

Primary Level Salary Range: $123,400.00 - $185,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
