On behalf of our small defense contractor client, ClearanceJobs is seeking a hands-on IT Manager / Senior Systems & Server Engineer to lead and execute IT, systems, and infrastructure efforts supporting mission-critical defense training systems. This is a hands-on hybrid role combining technical execution, IT operations ownership, and program-level technical leadership in a small defense contractor environment.
The role includes leading a Windows 11 enterprise technology refresh, supporting large-scale flight simulator and mission systems programs, and ensuring IT, cybersecurity, and systems engineering activities meet contractual, quality, and security requirements. The successful candidate will closely coordinate with engineering teams, cybersecurity personnel, company leadership and government customers.
This is a full-time position offering a salary + benefits package. Work is performed on site in Tempe, AZ area. An active DOD Secret Clearance with ability to upgrade to Special Access Program is required at the time of interview and Information Assurance Training (IAT) Level 2 Certification (ex. CompTIA Security+) is required to begin working.
Responsibilities
• Lead IT and systems engineering efforts from planning through deployment and sustainment
• Serve as technical lead for infrastructure refreshes, upgrades, and modernization initiatives
• Act as primary IT point of contact for customers, auditors, vendors, and internal stakeholders
• Author and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and Systems Engineering artifacts (including SEMPs)
• Oversee the deployment and sustainment of Windows client and server environments
• Apply and maintain DoD STIGs; support CMMC compliance for CUI
• Develop and maintain SSPs, POA&Ms, and cybersecurity documentation
• Manage the teams performing system builds, imaging, patching, backups, and lifecycle management
• Develop PowerShell scripts to automate administration and compliance tasks
• Provide Tier 3/4 support for engineers and deployed systems
• Own IT policies, procedures, vendor management, and procurement in a small-team environment
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
• 10+ years of systems administration / systems engineering experience
• 3+ years in a technical lead, senior engineer, or IT management role
• Strong experience administering Windows client and server systems in secure environments
• Experience authoring and maintaining Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs)
• Hands-on experience with DoD cybersecurity standards (STIGs, NISPOM, RMF)
• Experience supporting classified systems and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to travel up to 20%
• Active DoD Secret clearance (must be current at time of hire)
• Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) access
• IAT Level II certification required (Security+ CE or equivalent)
Desired:
