Job Title: Subject Matter Expert (SME) – Diplomatic & Sensitive Activities
Location: CONUS (Continental United States) – Various Training Sites Clearance: Active Secret Clearance (Minimum) Employment Type: Contract / Specialized Consulting
Position Overview
We are seeking highly distinguished former Ambassadors, Chiefs of Station, and Diplomatic Attachés to provide expert-level role play and mentorship for specialized military training exercises.
As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will bridge the gap between tactical operations and high-level diplomacy. You will be responsible for replicating complex geopolitical environments, simulating diplomatic engagements, and providing critical feedback to Special Operations Forces (SOF) operating within the Continental United States (CONUS).
Key Responsibilities
High-Fidelity Role Play: Replicate the personas of senior foreign officials, Ambassadors, or Chiefs of Station in realistic training scenarios.
Strategic Mentorship: Advise SOF personnel on diplomatic protocols, embassy hierarchy (Country Team), and the nuances of working within a Chief of Mission (COM) framework.
Operational Integration: Ensure that training objectives align with the realities of interagency cooperation, Department of State (DoS) equities, and intelligence community coordination.
Diplomatic Liaison: Replicate the role of a Diplomatic Attaché to simulate the coordination of military theater security cooperation and sensitive host-nation reporting.
Scenario Development: Assist in crafting complex, sensitive activity injects that test the communication, negotiation, and discretion of operators.
After-Action Reviews (AAR): Provide constructive, high-level critiques on students’ performance regarding diplomatic sensitivity and regional political considerations.
Required Qualifications
Diplomatic Experience: Must have served as a former U.S. Ambassador, Chief of Station, or Diplomatic Attaché.
SOF Interface: Minimum of one (1) year of experience directly supporting or interfacing with Special Operations Forces (e.g., as a POLAD, through an embassy-based Liaison element, or in a joint training capacity).
Security Clearance: Must possess an active Secret clearance (Top Secret preferred).
Subject Matter Expertise: Deep understanding of "Sensitive Activities" and the legal/policy frameworks governing operations in sovereign environments.
Communication: Ability to articulate complex geopolitical concepts to a tactical audience.
Preferred Attributes
Experience in high-threat or non-permissive environments.
Fluency in a second language or regional expertise in priority geographic combatant commands.
Prior experience in Exercise Control (EXCON) or white-cell support for Large Scale Exercise (LSE) events.
