Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Environmental Protection Specialist Series.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband NH-01, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-04 or equivalent in other pay systems. Generalized experience includes knowledge and use of environmental protection program principles and procedures applicable to a wide range of duties in one or more program areas, and a high level of skill in applying this knowledge in solving complex problems involving diverse aspects of environmental protection. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of a 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your official college transcripts. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of environmental physical science principles, practices, techniques, and procedures to effectively perform project development, execution, training, and advisory services in assigned projects.
2: Knowledge to troubleshoot environmental problems requiring investigation of unsanitary or questionable conditions in assigned projects.
3: Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and other guidance to make decisions and recommendations concerning assigned restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention, and/or integration principles and practices.
4: Ability to establish effective working relationships with others.
5: Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

This is an acquisition demonstration project position NH-02 equivalent to a GS-05 to GS-11.

- Employee has responsibility for small, routine projects or performs portions of large projects assigned to a higher-grade professional (e.g., environmental engineer, program manager, or physical scientist).
- Executes short-term goals and priorities to support environmental compliance programs to include hazardous waste, hazardous materials, water quality, POL, solid waste, air quality, and toxic substances utilizing available resources.
- Supports quality improvement and promotes environmental awareness programs.
- Ensures adherence to federal, state, and local codes concerning health, safety, and the environment. Ensures adherence to safety and security practices.
