About the Skillbridge Internship Program:

Calvert Systems is proud to be an approved partner under the DoD SkillBridge Program under DoD Instruction 1322.29. The Calvert Systems SkillBridge Internship Program is an opportunity for transitioning military service members to gain valuable, civilian, work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. This program is open to all ranks and experience levels. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Calvert Systems, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as active-duty service members. During this program the service member will be required to be on-site performing entry to mid-level job duties working a full-time schedule equivalent to 40 hours per week.

SkillBridge Internship Program Goals:

Offer transitioning service members skilled and experienced training that they will be able to use in the civilian workforce. SkillBridge Interns will serve as a pipeline for regular, full-time employment opportunities at Calvert Systems.

SkillBridge Internship Program Objectives:

Service Members completing the Internship program will be introduced to Calvert Systems' Mission, Vision and Values while being fully trained on how we execute to create long-lasting relationships, achieve company growth initiatives, and overall successes for us and our customers.

As a SkillBridge Intern working technical aspects of the Human Resources Specialist position you will be responsible for receiving hands on training in resume sourcing, compensation analysis and job pricing, interviewing, benefits and the onboarding process . In addition, you will also learn about Calvert Systems corporate office functions, such as Program Management, Business Development, Security, Contracts and Finance.

Who You Are and What You Need:
  • DoD SkillBridge eligibility required
    • Service Member must be within 12 months of separation or retirement
    • Service Member must receive written authorization and approval from the Unit Commander (first O-4/Field Grade commander in chain of command) to participate in DoD SkillBridge Program prior to start of internship
    • Service Member must be in good military standing with expectation to receive an honorable discharge
    • Service Member must have started the TAPS/TGPS program


What You Will Do:
  • Learn the job posting, interviewing and onboarding process
    • Learn how to post jobs
    • Review resumes
    • Conduct interviews
    • Hire candidate
    • Walk candidate through onboarding process
  • Learn the following systems and how to use them:
    • ClearanceJobs (Resume database)
    • ISolved - Human Resources system
    • PayScale - Compensation Tool
  • Learn the functional areas of the Calvert Corporate Office (Spend time with each unit and see how they interact with other units).
    • Program Management
    • Business Development
    • Security
    • IT
    • Contracts
    • Finance (includes payroll)
  • Specific projects for the intern to work to build skills
    • Scheduling project
    • Identifying incumbent works on a contract up for bid
    • Complete compensation analysis for specific jobs
    • Participate in interviews
    • Participate in meetings (All weeks)

    • Walk a new employee through the hiring and onboarding process
    • Help new employee understand benefits and get employee enrolled on ISolved
    • Benefit enrollments submitted to carriers
    • Review benefit invoices and reconcile
    • Review Employee Handbook and understand all policies
    • Employee Performance Reviews
    • Acronym Catalog
    • Visit with an HR department in an industry other than Department of War
