Position Overview
We are seeking an Engineer III with a strong mechanical, hands-on background to support maintenance, repair, testing, and sustainment of shipboard steam and auxiliary systems. This role is ideal for engineers who are comfortable working directly with equipment and who understand how shipboard steam systems operate in real-world environments.

The position includes significant travel in support of shipboard work, maintenance availabilities, and system restoration efforts. Candidates should be comfortable working in shipyard and shipboard environments and enjoy field-oriented problem solving. While exposure to machinery control systems is beneficial, the primary emphasis of this role is mechanical systems and steam plant equipment, with opportunities to learn automation and control systems on the job.

Key Responsibilities
Perform hands-on engineering and technical support for shipboard steam and auxiliary mechanical systems, including valves, actuators, pumps, regulators, heat exchangers, piping systems, and associated machinery.
Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical assemblies and components across steam and auxiliary systems, including actuating mechanisms, rotating equipment, pressure-regulated components, piping assemblies, and associated internal hardware.
Troubleshoot mechanical system failures, diagnose root causes, and implement or recommend corrective actions.
Support testing and validation of repaired or overhauled equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation and compliance with Navy standards.
Develop, review, and update shipboard technical documentation, including maintenance procedures, test instructions, and repair records.
Apply Navy maintenance processes and data systems to establish, update, and verify equipment maintenance requirements.
Support on-site shipboard work during maintenance availabilities, working closely with ship’s force, shipyards, and government stakeholders.

Travel Expectations
Annual travel requirement: Approximately 90–110 calendar days per year.
Typical trip duration: 7–14 days, depending on location and scope of work.
Travel supports shipboard maintenance, repair, testing, and availability periods.
Candidates must be comfortable with extended on-site work and schedule flexibility driven by operational needs.

Required Qualifications
Education: Graduate degree in an Engineering discipline from a nationally accredited college or university.
Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of experience supporting shipboard or industrial mechanical systems, including:
Maintenance, repair, testing, or overhaul of steam or auxiliary machinery.
Hands-on work with mechanical assemblies in steam, pressure, or propulsion-support systems.
Development or review of technical documentation related to mechanical or shipboard systems.

Core Strengths:
Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working directly on equipment.
Practical understanding of steam systems and auxiliary machinery.
Familiarity with Navy maintenance concepts, equipment lifecycle support, and configuration management.
Highly Desired Background
Experience with shipboard or commercial steam power plants, propulsion support systems, or auxiliary steam systems.
Experience supporting amphibious-class ships or similar naval platforms.
Background as a former Navy technician, shipyard mechanic, steam plant operator, or mechanically focused engineer.
Prior experience supporting maintenance availabilities or shipboard restoration efforts.
Nice-to-Have (Not Required)
Exposure to shipboard control systems such as Fairmount Automation or Rockwell Automation platforms.
Familiarity with machinery control or automation systems (training and mentorship provided).
What We Value
A positive, mission-focused attitude and strong work ethic.
Willingness to learn, take feedback, and grow into new technical areas.
Comfort working as part of a small, collaborative team in demanding environments.
Flexibility, professionalism, and accountability while working on-site.
