  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to acute and chronically ill patients and to emergent care patients when indicated.
  • Perform triage to take appropriate action such as practitioner referral and evaluation, health care advice, initiation of medical protocols or referral based on medical staff protocols.
  • Administer routine intravenous fluids and medications.
  • Maintain Medical Records and Emergency Treatment Records, providing follow up with patients in accordance with applicable policies.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members and other departments or directorates to achieve optimal care for the patient.

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • One year probation/two year trial period may be required.
  • A favorable Tier 3 background investigation is required for all Non-Critical Sensitive (NCS) positions with access to network systems and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Incumbent must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Required to lift up to 45 lbs in the regular performance of duties. Pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter.
  • Nurses may be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) and gear.
  • Must possess a current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certificate.
  • This position requires Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or must be able to pass certification within 6 months of employment.
  • This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • This position is Mission Essential; needed to ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions. May be required to report at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting and remain on duty during phased or early release.
  • Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Defense Health Agency, national security, and public safety.
  • Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are screened for immunizations or pre-existing immunity. This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
  • Position has been identified as having "regular contact with children," requiring a criminal history background check to be completed on any person selected for the position IAW DOD guidance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirement for Nurse (Clinical):

Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).

Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.

A Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) certification is preferred.

Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.

Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Education and Experience: Possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or above) which includes providing direct nursing care to a wide variety of patients; administering medications; and providing patient or staff education.

OR

Education: Successful completion of two and a half years (i.e., 45 semester hours) of progressively higher-level graduate education in nursing with a concentration in a field of nursing (e.g., teaching, a clinical specialty, research, administration) or in a closely related non-nursing field directly related to the position. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
