Job Description
Nexagen Networks is seeking a skilled Cloud Engineer to manage, customize, and maintain the Atlassian Cloud ecosystem (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket) while developing custom solutions to extend platform capabilities. This role supports mission-critical programs operating under U.S. government regulations and security requirements, ensuring the protection of sensitive technical data.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of Atlassian administration expertise and development skills, serving as a subject matter expert who drives best practices, automation, and scalable solutions. This role collaborates closely with Space Force engineers, project managers, and development teams to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support enterprise-level cloud operations.

Position Responsibilities
Administer and Maintain Atlassian Cloud Environment
- Administer, configure, maintain, and upgrade Atlassian tools including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket
- Manage user access, permissions, and role-based controls across projects and spaces
- Perform regular updates, patching, backups, and performance tuning to ensure security, compliance, and system integrity
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and guidance to users
- Conduct training sessions and brief teams on new features and best practices
Develop and Extend Atlassian Capabilities
- Develop custom plugins, scripts, and integrations using scripting languages such as Groovy or Python
- Design, implement, and automate advanced Jira workflows using ScriptRunner and Automation for Jira
- Customize workflows, screens, permission schemes, notification schemes, and dashboards
- Design, test, and deploy integrations between Atlassian tools and internal systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and implement process improvements
Reporting, Documentation, and Optimization
- Create and maintain dashboards and reports to provide leadership with real-time metrics and mission status
- Document configurations, procedures, and best practices
- Analyze current system usage and identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency
- Guide stakeholders in leveraging Atlassian tools effectively to support mission objectives
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience administering and managing the Atlassian suite
- Experience supporting Atlassian Cloud environments
- Atlassian certifications such as Jira Administrator for Cloud (ACP-120) preferred
- Ability to maintain an active DoD Secret security clearance
- Deep expertise in Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket, including workflows, projects, screens, fields, and permissions
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Groovy (ScriptRunner), Python, or Java
- Strong understanding of Agile frameworks including Scrum and Kanban
- Experience with Jira Query Language (JQL) and dashboard/report creation
- Familiarity with databases and query languages such as SQL
