Role Summary
Lead DO-254 documentation planning, development, and compliance execution for complex
electronic hardware supporting multi-discipline aerospace and defense training systems.
Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Software/Firmware, Test,
Quality, and Program Management to ensure robust requirements definition, design
assurance, verification, traceability, configuration management, and certification readiness in
accordance with DO-254 and related aerospace and defense standards.
Key Responsibilities
DO-254 Compliance Leadership
● Lead planning and development of DO-254 lifecycle and certification artifacts,
including:
○ Plan for Hardware Aspects of Certification (PHAC)
○ Hardware Development Plan (HDP)
○ Hardware Accomplishment Summary (HAS)
○ Supporting compliance and certification documentation
● Define and manage Design Assurance Levels (DAL) across the hardware development
lifecycle.
● Establish and maintain compliance strategies, review gates, and objective evidence
expectations.
Documentation & Lifecycle Data Development
● Author and maintain technical documentation including:
○ Certification and compliance white papers
○ Hardware verification and test plans
○ Test procedures and test reports
○ Technical design and compliance documentation
● Develop and maintain requirements, traceability matrices, and configuration data
aligned with customer and regulatory expectations.
● Coordinate cross-functional reviews and drive documentation and compliance issues
to closure.
Requirements & Systems Engineering Support
● Partner with Systems Engineering to understand, manage, and maintain customer
and system-level requirements.
● Ensure hardware designs comply with applicable industry, aerospace, and defense
standards.
, ● Support definition of data interfaces, input/output requirements, and equipment
performance requirements.
Verification, Validation & Standards Compliance
● Support verification and validation activities to demonstrate compliance with DO-254
objectives and applicable standards.
● Apply working knowledge of relevant standards, including:
○ MIL-STD-461 (EMI/EMC), preferred
○ MIL-STD-810 or DO-160 (environmental qualification)
● Ensure verification results and supporting artifacts are captured as objective evidence.
Cross-Functional Program Support
● Collaborate with firmware/software, digital and analog electronics, mechanical
engineering, test, quality, and program teams.
● Participate in technical reviews, program meetings, and customer interactions as
required.
● Communicate effectively with engineering leadership, program management, and
external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
● Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems engineering, hardware engineering, or a
related role.
● Working knowledge of DO-254 hardware development processes.
● Understanding of schematic design, circuit card assemblies, and printed wiring
boards.
● Broad technical knowledge spanning firmware/software, digital and analog
electronics, and mechanical systems.
● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
● Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to interface with technical and
non-technical stakeholders.
● Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-discipline engineering environment.
● Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required.
● Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
