Piper Companies is seeking a Machinist to join a Research Laboratory, performing on-site work in Adelphi, MD . In this role, you will leverage CNC and manual machining expertise to play a critical part in fabricating and modifying precision components for advanced research programs. This position offers the opportunity to work independently on complex projects that require creativity, problem-solving, and technical excellence.
Responsibilities:
• Execute complex technical assignments requiring creativity and problem-solving to adapt equipment, processes, and techniques for unique project needs.
• Fabricate and modify precision components to extremely tight tolerances, ensuring accuracy and quality for specialized research applications.
• Apply broad engineering and scientific principles to troubleshoot, design, and implement solutions independently with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate with project leads and stakeholders to define objectives, plan methods, and identify materials and equipment necessary for successful outcomes.
Qualifications for this position include:
• Must have high school diploma or GED
• Proficient in CNC machining including HAAS mills and lathes, with ability to generate machine codes and operate equipment independently.
• Experience with MasterCAM/SolidCAM software for programming CNC machines and creating precision parts.
• Skilled in manual machining for prototype work and capable of interpreting sketches, drawings, and verbal instructions.
• Strong shop math skills and ability to maintain close tolerances for high-precision fabrication.
• Must be eligible to obtain/maintain Secret-level security clearance
Compensation for the Director of Infrastructure includes:
• Salary Range: $35 - $40 / hour, W-2 Contract
