Job Number 714423BR

Description:WHO WE ARE

The ISA UAS division of Lockheed Martin's Advanced Development Programs (Skunk Works) is seeking world class software engineers to join a team that continues our 80 year legacy of pioneering advanced aircraft.

Our Mission Management engineers design, develop, and integrate software that powers the flight control, navigation, sensor fusion, and communications subsystems of cutting edge unmanned aircraft. We operate in a highly innovative, multi site environment where speed, modularity, and reusability are paramount.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

You will develop scalable, reusable code for current ISR/UAS platforms as well as next-generation autonomous aircraft, implementing flight-critical software for guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) systems, sensor management, and data-link interfaces. You'll collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and mission teams to deliver end-to-end solutions in an Agile, fast-paced environment, while contributing to a modular software architecture that can be rapidly adapted to new mission sets and emerging technologies.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

As a Software Engineer, you'll experience hands-on development, working from the lab to the aircraft across all stages of design, coding, integration, and both lab and field testing. You'll engage with a wide range of cutting-edge technologies, giving you the freedom to steer your career toward the areas that excite you most. You'll collaborate with a high-performing team of passionate engineers active both within Lockheed Martin and the broader aerospace community. Your work will be meaningful, combining software development with integration and test responsibilities on a multi-site program. You'll join an open, inquisitive culture that values diverse perspectives and a shared mission, and you'll work alongside senior technical experts while mentoring junior engineers-contributing to the growth of the team and the evolution of current and next-generation platforms.

YOUR IMPACT

You will bring your passion for software and avionics, along with your embedded software engineering experience, to develop software for a wide range of aircraft systems. Your contributions will support rapid prototyping initiatives as well as deliverable, production grade software for today's platforms and the aircraft of tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in full life cycle software development for avionics services and mission system technologies.

  • Create simulations to support and accelerate software development and testing.

  • Define requirements by partnering with software and systems engineers to capture rapid prototype needs.

  • Participate in integration and test activities, including hardware in the loop, lab, and field testing.

  • Support milestone planning, integration timelines, and delivery milestones.

  • Provide technical subject matter expertise for avionics subsystems and related software.

Travel up to 10% may be required.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • Proficiency in C++, Bash shell, or Python.

  • Experience with the software development process in a team environment (peer reviews, unit testing, configuration management, defect tracking).

Must be a US Citizen. This position is located at a facility that requires special access and a Secret clearance updated within the last 6 years to be considered.

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with Linux or RTOS (real-time operating systems) and associated development toolchains.

  • Experience developing software for avionics systems.

  • Experience with build environments and tools such as make and CMake.

  • Experience integrating hardware and software.

  • Experience using Agile software development tools and methodologies (e.g., Git, JIRA, Jenkins, Confluence).

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships and collaborate effectively with others.

  • Strong decision-making and judgment skills.
