The Indo-Pacific Regional Operations Department (N554) works with the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) and the Military Service Components on-island to inform warfighter requirements and Concepts of Operation (CONOPS), and provides Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I) systems acquisition, engineering, and integration support to the Department of Defense (DOD) and U.S. Allies in the Pacific Theater.
N554 is a dynamic and forward leaning organization that provides direct connections to warfighters. These direct connections allow staff to monitor and participate in current operations and exercises. A key output of this access is the ability to inform technology innovation and capability analysis with operational domain expertise. N554 operational depth and warfighter access has generated considerable expertise in the development and analysis of CONOPS, mission threads, use cases, and operational requirements. The Department establishes links between DoD sponsors and Coalition Partner development activities. N554 is on the cutting edge of current operations and is a major thought leader in force modernization.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Indo-Pacific Regional Operations Department (N554) is seeking to fill a Lead Capability Integration Engineer position for MITRE's project with U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) in Honolulu, Hawaii. MITRE aims to deliver quantifiable mission value and operational impact to the warfighter - primarily by accelerating technical innovation of new ideas and solutions to emerging operational problems. In general, we collaborate with acquisition stakeholders, technology innovators, operational analysts, and other mission partners to help accelerate the delivery of needed capabilities to operational and tactical level warfighters across the naval, joint, and combined force
As a Lead Capability Integration Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in accelerating the adoption of advanced decision support solutions where strategic competition and emerging technologies converge. This is more than a technical role. Co-located with senior leadership, you will serve as a trusted analyst providing technical and analytic rigor to guide decision-making for senior leaders, helping to shape how advanced technology and data-driven capabilities enhance warfighting readiness and decision superiority. From operationalizing existing tools to identifying scalable solutions for real-world problems, you will drive tangible outcomes that directly support joint and combined forces across all domains.
In this role, you will act as a connective force between operational priorities and the rapidly evolving technology landscape-enabling the smart integration of commercial innovations, government investments, and strategic partnerships. You will also help build the digital data foundation for enduring capability delivery, ensuring that sponsor initiatives align with command-level objectives, service component requirements, and cross-domain interoperability needs.

Specific responsibilities include:
- Lead data and Decision Support System (DSS) integration efforts in direct support of Sponsor Headquarters, focusing on accelerating operational adoption of existing and emerging technologies across directorates, service components, and strategic partners.
- Facilitate identification, refinement, measurement, and management of high-impact workflow automation use cases by aligning operational problem sets with available commercial and government-developed solutions.
- Serve as a trusted analyst, providing technical and analytic rigor and providing technical and strategic guidance on capabilities that support command and control, intelligence exploitation and analytics, mission planning, operational decision-making, and joint force integration.
- Provide cross-cutting solutions across HQ staff elements and special staff directorates to ensure unity of effort, eliminate duplication, and synchronize technology-related activities across the command.
- Partner with Department of War (DoW) service providers and infrastructure stakeholders to help shape a regional framework for scalable, resilient secure data networks and DSS deployment, tailored to prioritized warfighting and operational use cases.
- Align warfighter use case implementation with operational and technical objectives across USINDOPACOM, its Sub-Unified Commands, and Service Component Commands in a modernization plan, ensuring DSS integration supports both current needs and long-term transformation.
- Conduct operational, performance, and vulnerability assessments, and report findings to command leadership, providing clear insight into technology delivery progress, barriers to adoption, and paths to operational impact.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a B.S degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing, planning, implementing, integrating, sustaining, or managing data-driven applications or decision support systems within DoW or U.S. Government operational environments.
- Demonstrated experience with DoW operational missions, organizational structures, and planning processes, with prior experience performing day-to-day work in secure, classified facilities.
- Proven track record of integrating systems of systems in national security, intelligence, or defense contexts, including alignment with joint, service component, or theater-level operational needs.
- Deep understanding of cross-domain solution architectures and their application to secure, multi-domain environments.
- Experience with data analytic concepts as applied to military use cases and data-driven decision support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical and operational topics to both senior decision-makers and multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence outcomes, and build consensus in Operational Planning Teams (OPT) or Cross-Functional Teams (CFT) spanning government, industry, Allies & Coalition Partners, and the broader defense innovation ecosystem.
- Possession of a TS/SCI clearance (active within past two years).
- U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a relevant technical field such as Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Research, Information Science, Human Factors, or a related discipline.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or MBA.
- Current understanding of advanced technologies being adopted into DoW acquisition programs, with specific relevance to the Indo-Pacific theater.
- Demonstrated experience developing strategic implementation plans or modernization roadmaps for technology integration, with a focus on transitioning data-driven decision support and human-machine teaming capabilities from prototype to operational use.
- Experience advising or directly supporting Combatant Command or Service Component Command leadership, particularly in a joint or coalition environment.
- Proven ability to lead or contribute to multi-disciplinary teams working on complex, mission-driven challenges involving data integration, data visualization, or operational analytics.
- Interest in or experience with MITRE leadership roles, including project lead, task lead, or strategic contributor at the department or division level.
