Duties

  • May act as on-site supervisor if there are 24 or fewer children present in the facility. Gives on the job training to new clerks.
  • Prepares a wide variety of recurring and nonrecurring correspondence, reports, and other documents. Composes non-technical correspondence, such as instructions on office procedures, requests for information, and letters of acknowledgement or notification.
  • Provides customer service to patrons. Monitors everyone entering the facility. Greets customers and permits only those persons on official business to remain in the facility.
  • Establishes, updates, monitors and maintains office records of various types. Maintains, purges and disposes of office records/files in accordance with established regulations and procedures.

  • Employee is subject to work an uncommon tour of duty
  • Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required. The incumbent must have the ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM
  • This position has been identified as having "regular contact with children". In accordance with Public Law 101-647 Section 231, and Public Law 102-190, Section 1094, and DoD Instruction 1402.05, background checks are required.
  • A FBI fingerprint and State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) Check will be completed on any person selected for this position.
  • Recruitment is limited to the local commuting area of Ramstein ONLY.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of child care programs and procedures related to Child Development and Youth operations; knowledge of the organizational functions and services to answer inquiries or refer to the responsible staff member; knowledge of administrative policies or regulations to maintain files or records and perform clerical assignments; knowledge of duties, priorities, commitments, policies, and program goals of the organization sufficient to perform non-routine assignments, such as independently noting and following up on commitments made at meetings/conferences, advising others on preparing correspondence, requirements for various reports, and interpreting new instructions and procedures.

EDUCATION:
Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of office functions to screen to screen telephone calls and visitors, prepare and review correspondence, and perform other administrative work of the organization.

2. Knowledge of automated and/or physical filing systems and procedures and the subject matter content of the materials being processed.

3. Knowledge of Child Development Programs, Instructions, directives, and local policies and procedures.

4. Ability to operate a cash register, credit card machine and computer.

5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using tact and courtesy.

6. Skill in typing; a qualified typist is required.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
