Duties
As an Aircraft Flight Survival Equipment Repairer, WG-4818-11, you will:
Plan and lay out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by yourself and lower graded worker(s).
Utilize knowledge and skills of the journey level as well as those required to plan, accomplish, and maintain a functional shop maintenance program.
Independently determine appropriate maintenance procedures such as how and when the work should be accomplished. Estimate manpower, equipment, and material requirements.
Devise and maintain all program plans and records, performs surveillance and troubleshooting, and determine maintenance/repair procedures to be utilized.
Plan, organize, and direct shop maintenance programs/procedures under general supervision.
Determine approaches, methods, and courses of action required to accomplish the mission of the shop in an effective and efficient manner.
Provide recommendations and input to the supervisor concerning personnel actions such as performance appraisals, awards, position description changes, disciplinary actions, leave, etc.
Perform the full range of journey level work of the shop.
Implement safety regulatory requirements. Ensure that other workers in the shop wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
Perform other duties as assigned.

General Experience: Must possess experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of materials and equipment used in the line of work (helmets, torso harness assemblies, parachutes, survival equipment); ability to understand written instructions and to use reference materials and manuals.
Specialized Experience: Experience or trainingwhich has demonstrated knowledge of aviation life support equipment; experience reading and interpreting military manuals; experience in supply procedures and property accountability; experience collecting information and presenting it to various sized groups; experience in planning a functional shop maintenance program is essential.
Physical Effort: Physical effort is the same as that required for other worker(s) in the shop.
Working Conditions: Working conditions are the same as for the other worker(s) in the shop.

- NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
- Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
- The position requires the incumbent attend water and land survival schools, the Life Support instructor course, and the aircraft accident reporting course.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Must be qualified for, acquire, and maintain a valid drivers license for all materials handling equipment (MHE) utilized within the Life Support Function.
- The incumbent is subject to frequent TDY; may be required to travel aboard military aircraft.
