Kavaliro is seeking a Senior Accountant to support a client in McLean, Virginia.
The Senior Accountant provides strategic financial leadership and expert accounting support to complex federal programs. This role ensures financial integrity, audit readiness, and compliance with federal and agency standards while advising senior leadership and supporting mission-critical decision-making. Responsibilities include providing strategic financial guidance and timely customer support; ensuring data integrity, reporting accuracy, and compliance; designing and maintaining internal controls to mitigate financial risk; serving as a trusted financial advisor to program managers and stakeholders; managing day-to-day accounting operations within assigned areas; analyzing and reconciling General Ledger accounts and resolving complex discrepancies; analyzing financial data from multiple systems to produce reports, brief senior leadership, and make actionable recommendations; supporting audit readiness efforts and favorable OIG audit outcomes; preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, reconciliations, and supporting documentation; participating in Working Capital Fund financial statement preparation, analysis, and pricing forecasts; supporting financial system development, functional testing, and ad hoc reporting; and briefing senior leadership and external stakeholders such as OMB and Congress as required.

Required Skills and Knowledge
- Minimum 8+ years of progressive accounting experience supporting financial management, auditing, and fiscal control
- Bachelor's or Master's degree meeting minimum coursework requirements for CPA eligibility; Accounting, Business, or Finance preferred
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred but not required
- Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph
- Expert knowledge of GAAP, FASAB, and FASB standards
- Strong understanding of federal appropriation law and agency financial regulations
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex financial issues
- Ability to influence senior leadership and communicate effectively with non-financial audiences
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing contractor staff and competing priorities
- Advanced proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

- Candidates must have an active TS/SCI security clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph.
