The Opportunity
Neuma Consulting is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to serve as the technical lead for our Foundational Services Development Team supporting the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). This role is part of a recently awarded 5-year contract, offering long-term stability and the opportunity to shape critical enterprise services used across DIA production systems.
In this position, you will lead a small, highly capable team while collaborating with a broader engineering organization of more than 40 developers. Your work will enable and accelerate mission applications across DIA by providing secure, reliable, and scalable shared services.
The Challenge
As the senior engineer for Foundational Services, your work will sit at the core of DIA’s application ecosystem. Every authentication request, shared dataset, cross-domain interaction, and system integration depends on the services your team delivers.
This is not a single-application role—it’s an opportunity to build and evolve the foundational capabilities that many mission systems rely on every day. You’ll balance hands-on development with technical leadership, ensuring solutions are secure, performant, and designed to scale as mission needs evolve.
What You’ll Do
• Serve as the senior engineer and technical lead for the Foundational Services team (2–4 engineers)
• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise services, including:
◦ Token-based authentication services
◦ Cross-domain proxy services
◦ Email services
◦ IC AI APIs
◦ REST-based APIs serving common datasets
• Lead development of a custom dashboard managing critical aspects of the DIA application ecosystem
• Provide technical direction, code reviews, and mentorship
• Collaborate across a 40+ person engineering organization
• Translate mission needs into secure, scalable technical solutions
What You Bring
• 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including experience serving as a technical lead or senior engineer in complex, enterprise environments
• Active TS/SCI clearance (CI Polygraph preferred)
• Experience as a senior or lead software engineer
• Strong expertise in API and backend service development
• Experience working with databases and SQL
• Proficiency in TypeScript; Java experience is a plus
• Experience supporting enterprise or platform-level systems
• Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills
