Responsibilities

The Chief Engineer position involves operations and maintenance planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing MEP staff.
  • Ensure all equipment is always fully operational and in compliance with DOD requirements, federal codes/laws, rules and regulations.
  • Provide oversight to the operations of the Utility Plant, associated equipment, building systems, BAS, and other assigned duties.
  • Oversees policies, procedures, protocols, and controls that govern operations.
  • Coordinates work of subcontractors needed for operations and preventative maintenance.
  • Responsible for maintaining a strong, trained, and disciplined workforce through ongoing coaching, training, and hands-on mentoring to support employee growth.
  • Provide administrative and technical direction and supervision to staff in completing work assignments.
  • In consultation with the Project Manager, make recommendations concerning the hiring, promotion, and termination of MEP staff.
  • Advise, discuss, and inform Project Manager and customers on building systems and equipment matters and problem areas.
  • Maintains liaison with customers, stakeholders, and contractors/subcontractors engaged in preventative maintenance, repairs, service calls, or other projects.
  • Maintains sufficient records, files, controls, and procedures to ensure management and work production.
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and controls all aspects of MEP activities.
  • Works with the customer to find mutually satisfactory solutions to difficult issues.
  • Works with management systems and variety of skilled/unskilled, professional, administrative, and industry personnel.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Project Manager.

Qualifications

  • 12+ years' experience in facilities maintenance with a high school Diploma or GED is required.
  • 3+ years of experience trained and certified in the operations, maintenance and management of the BAS/EMCS/DDC systems.
  • Third Class Steam Engineers License issued by the state of Maryland or Virginia or the District of Columbia required.

  • Experience and knowledge of office administration, plant management, reporting, blueprints, buildings, equipment, housekeeping, construction, repair, maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, fire, safety management, and OSHA codes.
  • A demonstrated ability to identify, analyzes, and resolves complex problems associated with general construction, and maintenance/repair of commercial facilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer literacy including a working knowledge of MS Project and the MS Office Suite.
  • Fluent/Experience in a Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).

Abilities:
  • The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis. Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials. Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
  • Relocates a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
