Duties
Help
  • Answers clinic telephones, greets patients, answers patient's questions about appointment time, TRICARE benefits, waiting times, clinic services and other general questions not related to diagnosis or treatment.
  • Prepares and activates the master appointment schedule for the clinic.
  • Routes consultation forms to the appropriate provider or service.
  • Administers topical medications.
  • Operates specialized medical equipment associated with screening clinic patient.
  • Prepares laboratory, radiology requests and other forms as ordered by providers.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
  • This position requires the completion of an Occupational Health pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) answering patient questions regarding general clinic services or appointment concerns; and (2) utilizing automated computer systems to collect, record, and/or maintain patient medical information and history and; (3) scheduling medical appointments for patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
