General Function:
  • Apply DoD, Air Force, and standard engineering and scientific principles, processes, and procedures to improve performance, sustainability, and lifecycle outcomes of current and future Air Force and joint weapon systems.
  • Apply and execute MIL-HDBK-516C Airworthiness Certification Criteria for aircraft systems and subsystems, including support of airworthiness certification activities and issuance of flight authorizations.
  • Support System Integrity Programs such as MECSIP, maintain and update the Critical Safety Item (CSI) list, and monitor airworthiness certification status for mission partner aircraft.
  • Execute AFPD 62-6, USAF Airworthiness, associated AFIs, and Airworthiness Bulletins using standardized, compliant processes.
  • Translate user and operational requirements into weapon system and system-level requirements to support design, development, fabrication, testing, evaluation, fielding, and deployment.
  • Assist in developing requirements, technology needs, action plans, and policies that sustain world-class manufacturing, operations, remanufacturing, and demilitarization/disposal capabilities.
  • Perform technical and mission analyses of existing and future operational needs, develop system concepts, and conduct technology and trade-off assessments for proposed designs or modifications.
  • Provide rapid-response engineering support to augment organic resources, including problem identification, impact assessment, and development of corrective actions for critical supportability issues.
  • Support system safety engineering activities including mishap risk assessments, evaluation of contractor safety data, assessment of operational safety concerns, and resolution of high-priority safety issues.
  • Conduct material solution analyses and support preparation of technical documentation and presentation materials to inform design reviews within cost, schedule, and performance constraints.
  • Produce, review, and support a broad range of engineering, technical, and acquisition documents such as ICDs, CDDs/CPDs, CONOPS, SRDs, SEPs, TEMPs, PESHEs, RFPs, and system specifications.
  • Support development and review of specialized program documents including technology assessments and transition plans, data rights strategies, cybersecurity and IA strategies, CBRN survivability assessments, spectrum determinations, TRAs, MRAs, and related artifacts.
  • Develop and compile technical data for staff summary packages and executive briefings to support milestone reviews and approval authorities.
  • Participate in and support program meetings, working groups, and technical reviews including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, PRR, PMR, FCA, PCA, TIMs, TCMs, and other required forums.
  • Analyze equipment and software deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, and support development, integration, testing, and implementation of deficiency solutions.
  • Evaluate OEM and subcontractor engineering proposals and change actions including ACSNs, ECPs, CCPs, FAA bulletins, DMSMS issues, and overall program risks.
  • Assist in developing and evaluating IMPs, IMSs, SEDS products, and associated engineering cost estimates and schedules.
  • Provide advisory engineering support for weapon system contractor source selections, including evaluation of technical approaches and compliance.
  • Perform disciplined engineering activities in accordance with LCSE and OSS&E AFIs to ensure operational safety, suitability, and effectiveness of all products.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain LCSE and OSS&E processes, support OSS&E baseline updates, track metrics, and coordinate with stakeholders to sustain compliance.
  • Support implementation and execution of the Systems Engineering Plan across program operations and identify engineering gaps requiring corrective action.
  • Participate in value stream mapping and AFSO21 initiatives, facilitating continuous process improvement and application of best engineering practices.
  • Translate production and operational requirements into design, fabrication, and testing objectives, and assess installation suitability, reliability, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Manage and support configuration management, data management, and risk management processes; support environmental assessments, audits, interface control, and technical reviews.
  • Provide systems security and cybersecurity engineering support including RMF execution, SSE disciplines (anti-tamper, supply chain risk, cyber resiliency), classified system administration, compliance with DoD cyber directives, IV&V, site audits, software assurance, crypto modernization, rapid acquisition support, and protection of critical program information.

Qualifications:

Education/Certifications/Experience/Skills:
  • MA Degree and at least 20 years of experience in the related field, 12 of which must be with the DoD, OR, BA Degree and at least 25 years of experience related to the position requirements, 15 of which must be with the DoD, OR, 30 years of directly related experience, 20 of which must be with the DoD.
  • Must possess and maintain a government security clearance at the Secret level.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project).
  • Must be able to perform all functional duties independently.
  • Must be able to transport self to various facility sites, as required. If using own motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
