Company Overview
Metrea delivers effects-as-a-service to national security partners across five domains and more than a dozen mission areas—including airborne ISR, electronic warfare, secure communications, aerial refueling, special mission aviation, aerial firefighting, and advanced simulation.
Wherever we operate, we build vertically integrated full stacks of capability—designing, building, and operating turnkey solutions that let customers scale capacity while benefiting from continuous cycles of innovation. With operators and engineers under one roof, we close the gap between lab and field—what we call connecting design with effect.
Metrea’s solutions are built for elegance: effective, efficient, and evolving. This approach enables our partners to do more with less and achieve outsized, asymmetric advantage against rapidly evolving threats.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, Metrea has facilities across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and beyond.
Group Overview:
Electromagnetic and Cyber Group (EM&C) is responsible for developing flexible and survivable advanced electronic warfare and secure communications equipment while providing the industry’s leading signals intelligence, electronic warfare, and cyber experts. Metrea specializes in signal classification, direction finding, advanced geolocation techniques, and waveform development including waveforms for MANET and LPI/LPD applications. Metrea also develops special purpose radios for government customers and licenses DF and geolocation solutions to multiple OEMs.
Position Summary
The Principal Radar Antenna Engineer will lead the design, development, and validation of advanced radar antenna systems, including single elements and phased arrays. This role requires deep expertise in radar antenna design, chamber and range testing, and integration with radar systems. The engineer will ensure radar antenna performance meets system-level requirements, provide clean and reproducible datasets for DSP teams, and guide the team through prototyping and production phases. This position is critical to delivering high-performance, mission-ready radar solutions.
Role and Responsibilities
Design and develop radar antennas, including single elements, phased arrays, and multiband configurations.
Lead chamber and range testing campaigns, ensuring accurate calibration and measurement integrity.
Collaborate with R&D and Prototype teams to ensure radar antenna integration readiness.
Provide radar antenna datasets, calibration sheets, test reports and mentoring for algorithm and digital twin teams.
Evaluate radome and material effects and implement EMC/EMI mitigation strategies.
Support system-level integration and troubleshoot radar antenna-related performance issues.
Mentor junior engineers and lead technical reviews for radar antenna design and testing.
Skills and Experience
B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field; 8+ years of hands-on radar antenna design and measurement experience.
Proven success in chamber and range testing for radar systems.
Familiarity with phased arrays, MIMO radar concepts, and multiband radar antenna design.
Experience with radar system integration, including impedance/power budgets and cabling.
Proficiency in antenna simulation tools (HFSS, CST, or similar) and packaging data for algorithm and digital twin teams.
Knowledge of radome effects, EMC/EMI considerations, and mitigation techniques.
Strong documentation skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship
Ability to obtain and maintain a TS security clearance.
Commitment to reproducibility, documentation, and engineering and mathematical rigor.
