Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) System Engineering Manager 2. This leadership role will be located in Huntsville, AL and will support the Sentinel program. This E3 Manager reports to the Sentinel Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Senior Manager.

What you will get to do:

The E3 Manager will provide personnel support to the E3 Team and will have responsibility for the quality and technical execution of engineers. This position is a combination of hands-on management of engineering activities and personnel development and mentoring. This role works closely with program leadership, the technical leaders, and functional subject matter experts within the E3 Team. This position requires experience in technical work and knowledge, and experience with leading technical teams over a broad range of tasks including design, implementation, test, verification, reporting and scheduling. The successful candidate must have the ability to lead teams in a fluid environment that requires teamwork with our Customer, NGC teams and suppliers to meet program objectives. A high degree of skill in critical decision making is imperative to perform in this environment. A working knowledge of ground-based deterrence systems is desirable.

Responsibilities include:

• Tracking EMI and TEMPEST tests across IPTs and working with E3 test leads to develop schedules and manage resources. Lead a team to execute a test program on time and within budget.

• Earned Value Management of multiple E3 and TEMPEST Work Packages - directly supporting the CAM with resource forecasting, planning, and reporting.

• Manage the on time development and delivery of E3 and TEMPEST CDRLS - ensuring the high technical rigor standards are met for each product delivery.

• Communicate effectively and report regular status to Program Managers, IPT Management, and customer.

• Develop and support consistent execution of standard practices, best practices, methods, software and tools across programs. Implement lessons learned, standard practices, best practices, and continuous improvement plans. Lead projects and plans to improve technology, strategic capability, overall design, analysis and production capacity.

• Coordinate with programs for staffing, recruiting, training, preparing and delivering performance evaluations to employees, evaluating/recommending employees for promotions, evaluating salaries and coordinating with Human Resources on potential adjustments, assisting employees in preparing performance goals, providing career guidance to employees and counseling employees on their performance as necessary.

• Manage and forecast engineering resources in collaboration with engineering management and technical leaders.

• Work with the program E3 Senior Manager and Technical Leads in establishing personal program and functional goals and perform performance evaluations and merit adjustments for subordinates. Provide personnel with career development, employee engagement, mentoring and coaching.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) and a minimum of 8 years of related experience; Master's Degree in STEM and a minimum of 6 years of related experience
  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.
  • 1+ years of experience with Electromagnetics or TEMPEST design, test, analysis or related skills.


These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:
  • Formal management experience to include performance review for direct reports
  • 3+ years of experience as a DoD (or equivalent) contractor.
  • Experience with managing/scheduling complex technical efforts
  • Prior experience leading 10+ person teams
  • 1 year of engineering experience in at least one of the Specialty Engineering disciplines
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills and experiences presenting to both internal and customer audiences
  • Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite, IBM DOORS,
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) experience or CAM training
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and ability to interface with senior management, peers, and employees
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and to meet program commitments in a highly concurrent engineering environment


Primary Level Salary Range: $153,800.00 - $230,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
