The AMS E&S organization at Northrop Grumman Missions Systems in Baltimore, Maryland is seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal RF Microwave Design Engineer to support several of our onsite product lines.

What You'll get to Do:

In this role, you will support the design, modeling, verification, and troubleshooting of RF, microwave, and mixed-signal assemblies. You would collaborate closely with various team members, including Mechanical, Manufacturing, Test engineers, as well as RF subject matter experts.

Typical Roles and Responsibilities include:
  • Designing, modeling, and verifying RF, microwave, and mixed signal subsystem assemblies
  • Supporting verification efforts for RF, Analog, and Digital hardware designs
  • Support the creation/management of automated test benches for prototype assemblies.
  • Supporting verification efforts for RF, Analog, and Digital hardware designs
  • Collaborating with other teams such as Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Test.
  • Deriving and trading requirements with subsystem engineers and component level designers
  • Supporting products throughout the product life cycle including development, integration, and test.


This position is contingent upon having an Active Secret Clearance and obtaining SAP clearance.

Principal Engineer RF Microwave Design Engineer Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5 years' experience, Master's degree in STEM with 3 years' experience, PhD degree in STEM with 0 years' experience. An additional 4 years of experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.
  • Current Active Secret Clearance and ability to obtain SAP Clearance.
  • Experience with the use of RF test equipment like spectrum analyzers, network analyzers and waveform generators
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical hardware.
  • Documentation experience, generating test procedures, test reports, RF requirements, data analysis, data presentation


Sr. Principal Engineer RF Microwave Design Engineer Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 8 years' experience, Master's degree in STEM with 6 years' experience, PhD degree in STEM with 4 years' experience. An additional 4 years of experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.
  • Current Active Secret clearance and ability to obtain SAP Clearance.
  • Experience with the use of RF test equipment like spectrum analyzers, network analyzers and waveform generators
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical hardware.
  • Documentation experience, generating test procedures, test reports, RF requirements, data analysis, data presentation


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency with industry standard RF/Microwave modeling, simulation and printed circuit board design tools (e.g. Keysight ADS, Xpedition, Altium)
  • Drafting and design experience in PCB design for fabrication and PWB layer stack up for digital, RF, and mixed signal CCAs


Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
