Summary:
Performs repairs and manufacture of replacement parts, new items, prototypes and mockups. Operates a variety of machining tools in the performance of milling operations requiring complicated setups and a high degree of accuracy. The Machinist maintains in good repair the mill equipment and grinders in the Fabrication Shop. The Machinist must have expert knowledge of materials, methods, and tools used in the trade.

Essential Functions:
- Plan and perform difficult machining operations requiring complicated setups.
- Set up, operate, and disassemble manual, automatic, and CNC machine tools (lathers, mills, grinders).
- Interpret written instructions and specifications prescribed in drawings, blueprints, work orders or layouts.
- Determine proper feeds, speeds, tooling and operation sequence.
- Uses a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments to determine desired tolerances.
- Selects proper materials, parts, and equipment required for this work. Assembles and fits parts into mechanical equipment.
- Measure, examine, and test completed parts for defect using precision measuring tools.
- Shapes metal and non-metal articles to close tolerances.
- Selects proper materials, parts, and equipment required for this work. Assembles and fits parts into mechanical equipment.
- Welds metal parts together using appropriate methods and techniques.
- Performs related tasks of thermal cutting and grinding.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes and increases size of metal parts (buildup).
- Cut, fabricate and properly size prior to the welding process.
- Understands, plans, and can execute sheet metal operations as a backup to the primary sheet metal worker.
- Perform housekeeping of work area and equipment in accordance with specified standards
- Perform related work as required.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- 3 years machine-shop experience acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training.
- Required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Ability to maintain active CPR and First Aid certification.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Valid Nevada Driver's License.
Work Environment, Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to work at elevated heights of not more than 60 feet.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other team members and those contacted in the performance of required duties.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to travel as required by the company.
- Ability to successfully apply technical skills and knowledge to practical situations and problem solving in the performance of everyday tasks.
- Must possess strong computer and organizational skills in order to accurately input and track work performed.
- Ability to read and understand English and communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish, update, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Must be familiar with and comply with company and OSHA Safety Programs associated with Fabrication Shop operations.
