Backend Software Engineer

Position Summary: The Backend Software Engineer will play a critical role in the development and
sustainment of Socium, a mission-critical DoD enterprise system supporting global Security
Cooperation activities. This position focuses on designing, building, and maintaining backend services
and integrations that ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing functionality across NIPRNet and
SIPRNet environments.
• Backend Development & Integration: Design and implement server-side logic, APIs, and
data services for Socium. Develop secure and efficient integrations with DoD systems and
external mission partner platforms. Optimize backend performance for large-scale, cross-
domain operations.
• System Architecture & Engineering: Contribute to enterprise-level architecture decisions
and ensure alignment with DoD technical guardrails. Support development of workflows,
orchestrations, and data management processes. Implement responsive design principles
for backend components supporting UI/UX requirements. Develop for automated testing
and integrated code security.
• Security & Compliance: Apply cybersecurity best practices, including STIG compliance and
RMF requirements. Support ATO processes and maintain secure coding standards.
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to remediate vulnerabilities and maintain compliance.
• Agile Development & DevSecOps: Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog
refinement, retrospectives). Work within CI/CD pipelines to deliver incremental releases.
Provide technical input for user stories and acceptance criteria.
Qualifications:
• Five (5) or more years of experience with large technology systems.
• Five (5) or more years of experience supporting technology systems for DoD.
• Five (5) or more years of experience identifying opportunities for improving user experience
and defining the design roadmap.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems Technology, or Information
Technology.
• Active Secret clearance
Location: Arington, VA (remote as permitted)
Travel Requirements: Occasional domestic and international travel may be required for short-term
technical assistance assignments.
